I don't know...a quick google showed that the VAX-11/780 came out in 1977 and the 6000 came out in 1988. I have never used a 6000. I have used a VAX 8800 and an 8 processor DEC Alpha. The 6000-310 has a single processor, however it can use up to 6 processors. Needless to say, if this beastie works, I will be looking for additional processor boards...assuming they are not too expensive. Nice :) Looks similar to the VAXstation II (I think) we used to have as an in-target unit test controller (we do embedded systems work). I can remember when we got it delivered (it was sitting unused at another site). The hard disk was locked with bolts through the platters (that's what it looked like, anyway), and the disk was larger than my PC now is. We installed an IEEE488 board, VMS 4.4 (I think - although it may have been 5.5) and it sat quietly in the corner, working perfectly - it may still be doing so now... Congradulations. I'd like to have something like that, but I just don't have the room. (I drive by the airport everyday, see the hangers that can hold 4 747s inside and think it would take me 6 months to fill that) So, are you gonna run Ultrix, VMS, or netBSD on that thing?

Probably VMS...Haven't really thought that far into the future. My first order of business is the convert the 240V 3-phase into 240V single phase and power it up. You might want to check with some metal workers. They often buy cheap 3 phase equipment and then convert single phase to 3 phase. You can't use their cheapest tricks (rotery converts and the like), but electronic converters are coming down in price, and they might do the job easier. This is all a might, since I've not done it myself I'm just offering it as an alternative idea. Might be easier than building a new power supply. Might never get power clean enough to run it, I don't know.
