Yup, when I used to work for InApp, Trivandrum, we got bonuses for Christmas and Onam - quite handy :-) Also, since you don't expect it (unless you already got it once, you really feel happy about your employer). The 2nd and 3rd time, you actually begin expecting it though - being typically human (greedy for more) - and so it's not as much fun as the first time :-) Nish

Ivor S. Sargoytchev wrote: Is this typical for software companies? Not mine. We get nothing. Even our annual payrises are about half the rate of inflation... and salaries are really low to begin with; I get about US$27k a year. No wonder we've had 8 people out of 30 on the project resign since March... HR just don't get it (or more likely don't care) :sigh: [/rant]

Much as I'd love a Christmas bonus, we need customers first. Fortunately, we have a cunning plan. ;) Anna :rose: Riverblade Ltd - Software Consultancy Services Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. :wtf: I only get about €19800 a year and our taxes are way up in comparison with the US. So don't complain 2 much :-D. We do get a bonus, but after another set of extra taxes there's not much left of it :((. It's all just so unfair!! (I'm giving my boss a lot of hints for a raise though, keep your thumbs up :)) "If I don't see you in this world, I'll see you in the next one... and don't be late." ~ Jimi Hendrix

Sort of. We get kind of a profit-sharing type of thing, depending on the companies finances, and a bunch of other metrics, but usually we get something. They announce it in January, but the check usually doesn't come through until March. But still, it's something. And sometimes it's a substantial something. :-D An expert is somebody who learns more and more about less and less, until he knows absolutely everything about nothing.

Yeah. I draw about 10% of a month's pay. "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

The only bonus I get is that I finish for Christmas tomorrow! :-D Though I have saved enough holidays in order to do so! So that's finish on 17th and back to work again on the 4th. Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.
I'm coloured, yet clear.

If we're lucky our boss might get us a box of chocolates or a gift certificate or something. From the company we get nothing. The only time we ever seem to get a pay rise or bonus from the company is when someone resigns. :( SuzyB If I had a better memory I would remember more.

most places I've worked give Christmas bonuses. Only exception is when your a consultant, then you don't even get holiday pay. :)

According to the lastcensus, if I remember right, India has 23 million Christians. So it's not surprising that we celebrate Christmas, Easter etc :-) We didn't have Halloween and similar days till very recently though - and even now such purely western festivals are celebrated only in the metro cities by the rich and typically pseudo-western Indians :-)
