Have my desktop back again. For those of you that remember my recent computer woes I finally got my new mobo and finally have the system running again. As soon as I'm finished with this post I'm gonna reboot into memtest for a while just to make sure things are on the up and up. One thing that suprises me is that I was able to replace motherboards (same model) and XP didn't seem to mind... at all. No activation errors, no problems period. I booted up and bam working like it never broke down. Matt Newman

No activation errors, no problems period" I've done this too, my motherboard started acting up, I replaced it with new one of the same model, and XP was none the wiser. Unless these things have a unique serial number or something that XP can pick up on, I imagine XP assumes nothing has changed hardware-wise at all.

No activation errors, no problems period" I've done this too, my motherboard started acting up, I replaced it with new one of the same model, and XP was none the wiser. Unless these things have a unique serial number or something that XP can pick up on, I imagine XP assumes nothing has changed hardware-wise at all.

Userfriendly, 2003/06/07XP uses a hash based on the hardware components, weighted by importance. Minor stuff like vid cards don't change the value much. The NIC is heavily weighted (different NIC must mean a new computer). I changed the mobo, CPU, and ram size in 1 step, and XP refused to boot. Mine is not to question Why, but to shake my head and sigh.:sigh:
