How has Sarbanes-Oxley affected you?

I'd say I have immediately become at least 50% less productive. I spend a lot of time filling out paperwork to do ridiculously simple things to systems that aren't even in production yet. So how has it affected you? Has your company put large projects on hold until the kinks are worked out? Are you less productive? Does the benefit outweigh the cost in your particular situation?

My group barely dodged the bullet, but managed to prove that we're not directly connected to cash flow. My boss's other group... not so good. And our QA manager has been pretty much MIA, since she also manages QA for other groups that do need to be SOX-compliant. Oh, and my Oracle permissions are wack... but there are ways around that. ;)

My group barely dodged the bullet, but managed to prove that we're not directly connected to cash flow. My boss's other group... not so good. And our QA manager has been pretty much MIA, since she also manages QA for other groups that do need to be SOX-compliant. Oh, and my Oracle permissions are wack... but there are ways around that. ;)

Not at all, but then we're a UK company. We had a management buy-out from the then owners, a US company, last year. Few of our end-customers do much business in the US and I don't think any that do are listed on a US stock exchange, so again, not affected. Sarbanes-Oxley is only supposed to cover corporate financial behaviour. IANAL, but I can't see how changes to non-financial computing projects are relevant. I wonder if your management are getting the best advice? Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder
