Well, depending on who you ask, the answer is oil, or freedom. Christian I have several lifelong friends that are New Yorkers but I have always gravitated toward the weirdo's. - Richard Stringer

You must be using new math I added the figures in the document you cited and it included - approximately 5,000 Iranians were killed by chemical weapons between 1983 and 1988 In mid-March of 1988, Saddam Hussein and his cousin Ali Hassan alMajid -- the infamous "Chemical Ali" -- ordered the dropping of chemical weapons on the town of Halabja in northeastern Iraq. This killed an estimated 5,000 civilians The Anfal campaigns. Beginning in 1987 and accelerating in early 1988, Saddam Hussein ordered the "Anfal" campaign against the Iraqi Kurdish people. By any measure, this constituted a crime against humanity and a war crime. Chemical Ali has admitted to witnesses that he carried out this campaign "under orders." In 1995, Human Rights Watch published a compilation of their reports in the book Iraq's Crime of Genocide, which is now out of print. Human Rights Watch needs to reprint this book. Human Rights Watch estimated that between 50,000 and 100,000 Kurds were killed The regime is also carrying out a systematic campaign of murder and intimidation of clergy, especially Shi'a clergy. The number of those killed unlawfully is difficult to estimate but must be well in excess of 10,000 since Saddam Hussein officially seized power in 1980 In March and April of 1991, Saddam Hussein's forces killed somewhere between 30,000 and 60,000 Iraqis, most of them civilians With my old math I figure that that comes to around 100,000 people at a minimum just with these figures only. I didn't include the figures from the Iran - Iraq War http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761580640/Iran-Iraq_War.html[^] SInce you can't add I'll assume you can't follow the link either, the article says "The Iran-Iraq War lasted just short of eight years and resulted in catastrophic destruction in both countries. Because both Iran and Iraq used irregular military units, attacked civilian populations, and played down their own losses while playing up those of their opponents, reliable casualty figures do not exist. For example, Iran claimed to have lost 200,000 or fewer of its own citizens, while Iraq claimed to have killed 800,000 Iranians. Neutral estimates come closer to the Iranian claim but are uncertain. Because of different battlefield techniques, Iraq’s deaths were probably

I think it is still being bombed, because Bush cannot accept the fact that moslem extremists take over the country, now that Saddam does not fight them anymore. I read than while Saddam was ruling iraq, women didn't even wear headscarfs. Today the whole country is chaos, and moslem extremists are taking their chance to invade it. Iraq is a moslemic country, and the people should decide what they want: Theocracy (they understand it) or Democracy (something completely new to them). But Bush sees his reputation going to hell, because "our system for everyone" is the big label upon his war games. He cannot make his army leave iraq, without losing what is left of his reputation as "the world police". Why iraq was bombed at all, is not that eay to answer. There are several possible reasons. (1) The president's daddy could not defeat iraq. It was a second try. (2) Operation Iraqi Liberty ? (3) Somebody really believed that there had been any weapons of mass destruction. (4) New high-tech-weapons needed to be tested. (5) Thousands of other reasons. Nobody will ever know the truth. _________________________________ Vote '1' if you're too lazy for a discussion

You mean "Why are people in Iraq setting off bombs to kill Iraqi civilians, Iraqi security forces, and Americans?" In the audiotape, a speaker identifying himself as Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - the leader of Iraq's al-Qaida affiliate - called candidates running in the elections "demi-idols" and said those who vote for them "are infidels." "We have declared a fierce war on this evil principle of democracy and those who follow this wrong ideology," the speaker said. "Anyone who tries to help set up this system is part of it" - a clear warning to both candidates and those who choose to vote. http://apnews.myway.com//article/20050123/D87PTPD80.html[^] Because democracy is incompatible with extremist views that Muslim people should be under a caliphate-ruled theocracy. ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]

the reason is because America needs something to talk about. Bush went to war so that people could engage in the lovely passtime of Bush Bashing and watching Farenhiet 9/11 He decided to continue bombing because people still love Bush Bashing it pisses people off Moore needs more ideas for his propaganda ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO MICROSOFT! Maybe you should ask why people are willing to brutalize each other to prevent the majority of the people in Iraq from having a say in their lives and their country's future. I can answer the question for you.... because Al Zarquawi and his kind would rather live under a totalitarian dictatorship than democracy. That means they are more than willing to bomb, behead, and kidnap to have their way. Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

Because US troops are stationed there, withdrawing them after all remaining infrastructure is shattered is likely to result in prolonged post-war-chaos, and would leave the US with no win but a whacko dictator replaced by another, the troops need to be defended, and dropping weapons of major destruction is integral part of any "modern" US warfare.

You're assuming I meant to do anything but plagarize "Family Guy" and "TV Tome?" I thought everyone would pick up on the Family Guy reference first thing, but I suppose I was too obscure. But, yeah, good job using Google. That's, uh, that's dedication for you. Yeah. :-D

Yeah, "Family Guy," it's a show that often does non-sequiters with references to 80's TV shows. I had just watched the one where Peter chooses the theme for the float contest to be "that episode of Different Strokes where Alex sees Emma in the shower" or something like that. Also, I used "Family Ties" because I don't remember any other TV shows from the 80s. Like I said, obscure. ;P

You think that was inappropriate? You must spend a lot of time being shocked by network TV.
What is "network TV"? The name sounds like a web broadcasting station. Is is somethink like ShoutCast with video? Never heard of it. _________________________________ Vote '1' if you're too lazy for a discussion
