how good is SOA to support over 1 million trans for my web app

Hi, I am running my site on ASP and SQL at the moment and its basically a fund clearing agent. I would be re-making this application using .NET as I need to now support around 1 million transactions per month. Along with that I was also thinking of making it in such a way that there can be an engine to process payments which could be accessed by a web service. I have also heard about SOA(service oriented architecture) which i think could be a good move for this application but I am not sure whether I would be a best solution. Please suggest me whether these thoughts can make my application better or if there is anything else out there which can serve better in my situation. Ashu Sharma Web Analyst eBizneeds
