My BUD (Big Ugly Dish)
-
I've just put up a 8 1/2 foot satellite dish so my inlaws can watch CCTV4 and I can veg in front of Cartoon Network. Anyone else have a big dish? Their seems to be just about everything up there, if you are willing to spend the time and expense to hunt it down. This is also one of the times I'm sorry I don't live on the west coast of USA, since most of the really good satellites are below the horizon for me.

What advantage does a dish give you? I mean won't the channels already be available through cable? Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain www.busterboy.org If you don't find me on CP, I'll be at Bob's HungOut

For many the issue is not the size of the dish, but encryption gear. In the early years all signals were clear broadcast. If you had the dish, you could watch. Today for most sources, that changed. You generally need some special gear to turn the received signal into something viewable. What receiver do you use with your large dish? Ed

I went with a General Instruments 4DTV receiver, which picks up digital signals off of C band. It can also handle C and Ku analog signals.
