Check it out, the trailer for the forthcoming The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie. I can't quite make-up my mind if the trailer is promising or not. regards, Paul Watson South Africa The Code Project Pope Pius II said "The only prescription is more cowbell. "

Thanks but the trailer you link to is very different from the one on Amazon. The one on Amazon shows some of the actual movie. Also I am amazed that people are having problems with video hosted on Amazon's servers. I think it is more of a problem with Flash versions or something. Thanks for the link anyway :) regards, Paul Watson South Africa The Code Project Pope Pius II said "The only prescription is more cowbell. "

The trailer doesn't bode well as far as I can see. The quirky humour of Hitchhiker's just seems...missing. :( However, a glance at the cast list (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371724/[^]) reveals Simon Jones (I seem to remember he was the voice of the book in the TV series) as the Magrathean Announcer and Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android. Maybe there is hope, after all. I still can't help thinking the casting of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect is completely and utterly wrong though. :suss: At least Red Dwarf - The Movie[^] is using the original cast. More hope there, methinks. :) Anna :rose: Riverblade Ltd - Software Consultancy Services Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. It didn't work.

Each iteration of the story from radio to books to tv have all had something different. If they stuck to DNA's original script then it should be a good movie. But we all know how American movie companies like Disney like to blandify good ideas. I think Martin Freeman looks like he'll make a good Arthur though. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

If you ask me, not a patch on the original BBC TV series. As far as I can see from thetrailer, Zaphod Beeblebrox only has one head in the movie - what's up with that?

A case of the written word showing up the limits of film. Ah, books and imagination. :) regards, Paul Watson South Africa The Code Project Pope Pius II said "The only prescription is more cowbell. "

It's either they didn't care, or thought that a two-headed person would freak out a US audience. I know films always take a massive creative licence with the original book (just read Ian Flemming's "For Your Eyes Only" - it's a collection of five short stories - and the film weaves three of them together), but there's such a thing as staying fairly true to the original...

Ford is meant to be English with a shock of red hair, Zaphod is meant to have two heads, and Trillian a blonde ditz with a degree in astrophysics. And the guide itself looks all wrong. I dunno - it look a little hollywood'd out to me. A little too much CGI. The HitchHiker's works because it's very English, very understated, with subtlety and irony. I think that cheesy BlockBuster Announcer type voice over the top of the trailer really put me off. It's not meant to be an epic, it's meant to be a comment. cheers, Chris Maunder

Coming April 29th, 2005? Cute. "For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you would never have considered. That is the exploration that awaits you. Obviously I was getting the "Simon Jonesy voices" mixed up with "Peter Jonesy Voices" `LOL  It must be Monday. :~ Michael P Butler wrote: Each iteration of the story from radio to books to tv have all had something different. That's the fear really...The Hitchhikers Movie has had a bit of a chequered past in that department, and I'm concerned that the charm and humour of the original will be diluted so far as to ruin the movie for those of us familiar with earlier incarnations. The effects were good, but the trailer in no way made me laugh. That was after all the whole point of the books. The film looks very "cool", but that's not how it should be surly! Joel Holdsworth Wanna give me a job this summer? Check out my online CV and project history[^]
Joel Holdsworth wrote: The film looks very "cool", but that's not how it should be surly! About what Hollywood are you thinking? :) It only has to make money. Whether that's through a catchy title, a cult following, or special effects that people go for, it's all about attracting swarms of people. "Hitchhiker's Guide" has all those elements so it should generate quite a bit in the box office. That's what movies are about these days. When's the last time you actually saw a good plot wrapped in a good theme, not to mention one that's original and not an obvious knock-off of some show we watched as children or that our parent's watched? Movies generate far more money - taking into account inflation - than every before and it'll probably continue to get worse because droves of people flock to the theaters for various reasons - mostly for shallow reasons. Take the upcoming Star Wars, for instance. Pretty much every SW fan hates Lucas and what's he's done not only to "his" franchise but even the original movies. Yes, those same people - including me - will go to watch Star Wars because it's legacy - pretty much the "cult following" I mentioned above.
