      Now we just need the source code and what was used for the motion detector. I do not mind getting old. It beats all the other options that can think of.

                Now we just need the source code and what was used for the motion detector. It just so happens that I have written exactly such an application. It's integrated into a larger video capture / webcam application I wrote a while ago but I'd recently been toying with the idea of seperating out the motion detection part and writing my first article for CP about it. Here a screen shot of the motion detection setup dialog: http://photos.imageevent.com/theflyingtinman/share/MotionDetect.jpg[^] Using the various parameters and the on-the-fly visual representation of detected motion (blue/red on the gray-scale image) you can quite easily tune it so that a person passing through the selected area will trigger it but not a dog or a cat.
