For anyone who cares, my RAC hell continues. The buyer has said he's willing to pay me $300 for the work done, if I delivered the code and a DB backup. I called him an idiot ( he's had the code in every release I've sent him ) and sent him a DB backup. Now RAC is saying that has the deadline has since passed, I should have finished it all, in other words, they are telling the buyer if he wants to raise a fuss, he can get out of paying me at all. Never, ever, ever, ever, will I use a site like that again. They attract useless coders and idiot buyers. Every one else runs for their life. One thing I wonder about now - when I help someone in one of the forums, am I helping someone do a job for $50 that I would have otherwise been able to make $5,000 on ? Because that is seriously the order of difference in pricing, and we're by no means on the cutting edge of what some people charge. Christian I have several lifelong friends that are New Yorkers but I have always gravitated toward the weirdo's. - Richard Stringer

I've written replies to several people, but most seem to think that they can get projects written for $0.05 per hour... Honestly! I have seen projects that stated that they wanted someone to write a knock-off of Donkey Kong and provide the sources... and they would be so kind as to pay < $100 for your effort! One reply I was sent stated that he was looking for someone to complete an audio filter project for around $15... and stated that he had someone already whom replied that they would complete the task on schedule for that price! He even chastised me for stating that his "< $100 maximum bid" was a bit disingenuous. I don't know how anyone can take RAC seriously... it is exploitive at best!

Steve Mayfield wrote: If they thank you, it is probably one of the latter two (pet project or homework)... I agree. I have seen this trend of not saying thanks or any kind of response from people and I always think that I wont ever reply this person again. It always seem to me that a person who is getting help from you for something which he will be paid for will never bother to answer you once his task gets done. All 'experts' were novices at some time, us oldies did not have the Net to ask questions when we started, and we know how hard it was when we got stuck. Most don't mind answering 'silly' questions providing you have tried to sort out the answer yourself. When I get stuck I ask questions as well, so it is a two way thing!

My experience is the reverse of Christian Grauss's. In my latest project, the programmer begged off saying he has personal problems. What can I do, give him a bad rating? One guy took so long it was unbelievable. Another guy asked for SOME money at the end of a month for progress so far, I gave him ALL the money and he never did anything more on the project. In these cases, RentACoder can't help me because I have been too nice. I guess some win and some lose on RentACoder.:sigh:

Maybe CP needs to have a RAC-like forum for people having projects like that. I actually helped a guy get a job by chatting and answering questions on CP. Something like this on CP would also be nice because you can see what kinds of articles (if any) the people bidding have written. Steve Maier, MCSD MCAD
