I was interviewed by phone back in '96. Got through the the HR interview and an interview with an engineer. They discussed a salary and invited me for a final interview in Redmond (expenses paid) The salary was the same as I was earning in Santa Cruz, CA at the time and the only advantage they were offerning was a bunch of lousy stock options - so I turned them down. What an idiot! ... remember this was '96 :-( Steve T

I had a phone interview a little less than two years ago. It was a joke. I was a perfect fit for their requirements, but it ws clear they didn't know what their own requirements were. Despite having real world experience in exactly the field for which they were hiring (telecom) I was cut after the first interview; talking to the recruiter it became clear it was because I wasn't properly degreed. Truth is, I really don't like Seattle so in many ways it was a relief. Fortunately, about a month later I had a phone interview for my current job and got hired without ever having a face-to-face. (My current job is great except for HR and our medical insurance--the coverage isn't bad, but the claims processor is horrible.) (My former business partner got a lot further than I did. He would probably have gotten an offer except for the last question of his last interview, by which point he'd decided he didn't want to work there. The high level person asked him what one thing he would change in Microsoft Office; his response: "Add a button so I could turn off all the automatic s--t." It still cracks me up.) Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke

I cleared a livemeeting and phone interview about a couple of months back. It was quite easy..they kept me online and asked me to write some linked list code and some command line parser. I did clear it but elected not to attend the in person interview since I didn't like the job description all that much. Good luck. "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

I was interviewed a year ago. They contacted me, and to my surprise they wanted a program manager, not a developer, and I had no idea what PM really was supposed to do (still have no idea ;P ). Anyway, I took a trip to Redmond, met some great developers and PMs (it was a position for VC++ team) and had great time overall. Of course, they turned me down :) One mistake I made though, was not asking for available developer positions. I guess I was happy with my job and relocating from San Diego to Seattle didn't exactly look like fun. From this perspective, it was a huge mistake :(

Its not a college job. actually their recruiter who hire ppl directly from universities has shortlisted me. His designation shows "Senior Recruiter" Microsoft College Hiring They have shortedlisted me for Software Design Engineer and Software Design Engineer in Test positions in Windows Client Business Group. Do u know about this "Written Interview thingie in which they post set of questions and ask u to send a reply.. They have told me that they would arrange a telephonic interview once i clear this step.. Any tips? Muhammad Shoaib Khan http://geocities.com/lansolution
