one of the guys I'm working with here in Dallas was wondering about the British Commonwealth. He knew that my home country, Australia is a Commonwealth country but he wondered if India is. To be honest, I don't know if it is or not. Gut feeling tells me it is but much has happened since 1948. So... what's the answer? :) Rob Manderson I'm working on a version for Visual Lisp++ My blog http://blogs.wdevs.com/ultramaroon/[^]

Yep, India is part of the British Commonwealth though it's now called The Commonwealth of Nations Though I don't think there are many Indians who'd stand up and raise their hats if the Queen or someone showed up abruptly. Nish :-)

And why should we? :) We may be part of the Commonwealth, but unlike Australia or NZ we are a Republic and have no connection whatsoever to the British Crown. Vikram.

Membership of the commonwealth in most contries including India, means very little. Almost like belonging to some social club, spending time debating what inefective measures to take against Mugabe etc. In Australia, the Queen is the head of state, her picture is on the currency, she appoints a governor general etc. The Queen's birthday is a holiday in parts of Australia (interestingly, it is not a holiday in England :) ) Some Australians are worried about the prospect of Charles becoming their head of state .
