The survey of 2,000 Germans by Berlin's Free University and pollsters Forsa found 24 percent of those living in western Germany want the Wall back -- double the eastern level.[^] Surprise anyone? If true, what is the real cause of the feelings? Mike K(arl) wrote: Date:8:50 23 Feb '05 I love you.

Sometimes when you're irritated, you tend to exaggerate. I'm sure the east germans really don't want to be slaves to an evil government again, and I don't think that west germans would really want that fate for anyone. -- Oneigaishimasu! I blog too now[^]

Germans have mixed feelings on the fall of communism. As Deiter would say... you intimidate me with your aggressive mannerisms.

While interesting, most surveys are inaccurate when it comes to crunch time. Similar to pre-election polls people swing wildly and I doubt that if this was a vote insteead of a poll the results would be the same. [edit]What it probably does show is that a good percentage aren't happy with the results of integration. rathe than the wall itself [/edit] Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

Add the new economy bubble, Germany NOW feels the decline that it should have felt 20 years ago. For east germany, a lot of identity, social structures (I am *not* talking about welfare here), went overboard. Life lines were broken, plans shattered, many people lost the lives they built for themselves. Economically, it was letting Enron loose on an unsuspecting, big-eyed children. Who's fault? Of course, the colonization by west germany.

I knew some people who lived in Berlin in the 60's and 70's and they lived liked doomsday was tommorrow. They partied, drank and lived a very hedonistic existance. But after the wall came down that motivation was gone. Maybe that was part of the reason. Of course it may also be this: There are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Just like statistics, surveys can show you anything you want.

Add the fact that it was just 40 years of separation, and fairly similar culture.
