Well this is probably not a great idea but I have this bump on the back of my hand and it is starting to bother me. I have done some research on the Internet and seem to know what it is (I hope). It is a small (around dime sized) dump that feels like it is made of bone. Just itself it is not painful but the location where it is happens to have a tendon running right over it so when I twist my wrist a certain way the tendon slips over it and kind of snaps, causing a slight discomfort. As best I can tell it is classified as a Ganglion (http://my.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/stg124352.asp?navbar=[^]) but I am 100110% sure yet. I guess this means a trip to the doctor. The really odd thing is that I seem to be getting another one on my other hand that has not yet become so pronounced as to cause any problems. Anyone else every have anything like this?

It's funny because I did not even notice this until a few days ago. I hate going to the doctor. I am not afraid or anything, I just hate going, You make an appointment then sit there until they feel like taking you in. Then once you are in there they poke and prod, ask questions upon questions and in the end it all still seems like they are throwing darts at a spinning wheel to diagnose things. Get this test, get that test, then we will see… Someone HAS to come up with a human diagnostics port.

Could it be a calcium deposit, an inflamed lymph node, or maybe a cyst?

Just make sure you follow the following advice from the WebMD link you posted: "Smashing a ganglion with a heavy object is not recommended because it usually does not work and may cause injury." Ganglion sounds like something out of a DnD Monster Manual.

Although I'd still recommend that you see a doctor, I suspect that you're right. I had a ganglion on my right foot for many years, starting as a teenager. It was large enough and hard enough to permanently distend my leather shoes. After an expensive trip to the hospital after a doctor's diagnosis it disappeared - they use a local anesthetic to knock out the nerves then drain the thick liquid out of the sheath where it's trapped. A month later it was back, full size, so I decided to just live with it, though walking was sometimes painful. Many years later I had this sudden feeling of something "different" while taking a shower. It took a few moments to localize the feeling, but when I looked there was no sign of the lump on the foot. I know it didn't just disappear instantly; it must have been gradually dispersing for months, perhaps years. But I was completely unaware of the process until it was done. Talk about putting something out of one's mind... I haven't seen it in 15 - 20 years now, and don't expect it to return. But do see a doctor, listen to his recommendation, and decide for yourself what to do about it. "If it's Snowbird season, why can't we shoot them?" - Overheard in a bar in Bullhead City

Ray Cassick wrote: I guess this means a trip to the doctor. Dude! Do NOT delay. Get to the doctor and have it checked! One day April 2004 I woke up and my arm felt like it was asleep. Thought maybe I slept on it wrong.... After a week, I broke down and went to the Dr. He didn't know what it was. He thought I had a stroke or similar (I was only 41 at the time). Very rapidly I lost use of my arm. Couldn't hold anything, couldn't even write my name. Oh I wasn't liking that a bit. Ever try to type code one handed? Well after a wonderful day in the hospital getting a spinal tap, they sent me off to get an MRI. Short of it is, got the use of my arm back after 2 months BUT I now have permanent nerve damage. If I had gone sooner maybe it would be different. I will never know. Of course I can't tell you what it is but I certainly won't wait again when something weird happens to me. Call it lesson learned.... Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level where they are an expert.
