Yup. It's that time of year again, and the town is a-buzz with the sound of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Driving today was like navigating a swarm of gnats, but by tomorrow it will be more like wading through a swarm of angry hornets. By Friday it will be impossible to sleep, so look forward to a number of incoherent posts from me. It's the annual Laughlin River Run, and if you love beautiful, if noisy and unreliable machinery, this is the event to see! Even though I don't know how to ride them, motorcycles still fascinate me. Maybe this year I'll finally buy one and try. A few years ago I posted a running account of the great shootout at Harrah's casino, and the past couple of years have been dull. Get your bets down... Will there be a repeat this year? Who will win - the Hell's Angels, or the Mongols? How do you score an event like that? One point for a fatality, half a point for merely wounding? "If it's Snowbird season, why can't we shoot them?" - Overheard in a bar in Bullhead City

I saw (actually drove behind one) a scooter with side wheels like those you get on bicycles. I dare you to join them with one of those  (and dont forget to look serious). xacc-ide 0.0.15 now with C#, MSIL, C, XML, ASP.NET, Nemerle, MyXaml and HLSL coloring - Screenshots

grown men with the mental age of five year olds on bikes that are about as roadworthy as a shopping trolley I hate those things. As soon as anyone buys a Harley the first thing they do is remove the muffler to make it sound "cool"... WHICH IS ILLEGAL (in my country anyway) but the cops dont do a thing I would go on vacation if I were you

Not everyone removes the muffler. They have mufflers that actually make the bike louder! My brother-in-law has a Harley and he was telling me how he got a muffler that helps keep the sound down, but they make special ones to make them louder. ;P

There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. We shouldn't assume something's debugged just because everyone in the whole world has access to the source code.

How to find spare parts for a Harley? You just have to follow one :) (a variation: Q: Why do harley riders never ride faster than 100km/h? A: Any faster and they can't see where the parts fell off.)

Loud pipes save lives. It is a way of having presence on the road, when you don't have size. You as a car driver are definitely aware of the bike, therefore the chance of changing lanes, right on top of the biker are reduced. It's good to live, Josef Wainz Software Developer

paulb wrote: grown men with the mental age of five year olds Definitely - lawyers, accountants, doctors, dentists - clearly all of sub-par mentality. Those machines cost more than a small house, and are not driven by fry cooks. They do it for a lot of different reasons, none of which I share else I'd be out there with them, but making noise is not one of them. A sense of freedom, wind in the face, mobility, outlaw wannabes, whatever. I've found that, except for the ones running drugs (a tiny minority) they're a good lot, and they add a bunch to the local economy. They drive a lot better than old people in RVs, too, and don't shoplift as much. "If it's Snowbird season, why can't we shoot them?" - Overheard in a bar in Bullhead City
