For those of you into ANSI compliance, Microsoft showed off an early internal build of their compiler that raises VC's over all compliance rating to among the highest in the industry. They are able to compile all of the popular 3rd party template libraries, e.g. Loki, Boost, Blitz++, POOMA and a complete STL. Scott Meyers and Andrei Alexandrescu were practically drooling, which is in stark contrast to the growling and shrieking that they did during the managed extensions presentation. : ) [sarcasm] Damn, just what we were told. MS has hired and consumed that C++ guru dude. As expected, MS isn't doing a damn bit of work on the compiler. [/sarcasm] Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

Several months ago, Microsoft spokespeople were writing on CodeProject apologizing for the fact that VC++ 7 would not support partial template specialization and hence could not compile Blitz++. They said that support for PTS (and hence Blitz++) would be a priority for VC++ 8. I wonder, did Microsoft add PTS to VC++ 7 sometime after beta 2, or is SellsBrothers just spouting hype? It would be very cool from my perspective if VC++ would finally support Blitz++!

The IDEs from Borland (e.g. Delphi or C++-Builder) are the worst IDEs I have seen. The floating desktop is really horrible. And the undefined crashes from time to time are a real productivity-killer. -- See me: www.magerquark.de
