I'd go for a digital camcorder, if it's in the budget. As much as I love my Nikon CP4500, it's damned slow on the response time, and I miss a lot of action shots because of the delay. Kids are very dynamic creatures, and you want something that will record in real-time - current digicams don't do the job. With a digital camcorder you get continuous images, along with the ability to select single frames for the best still shot of a set. You can do the same with a digicam, by using a multi-shot burst mode, but it sucks up memory really quick. Digital camcorders seem to use memory more efficiently. Congratulations, btw! I wish I'd been so lucky in my life as to have been a Dad. I've had the pleasure of raising several other people's kids for a time, but it's not the same...:sigh: Boredom, Bull$^%&, Baggage, Bar - all start with 'B'

1. Are you any good with a camera? If so then get a digital camera. If not then a camcorder is probably a better idea. 2. Canon 350D/XT or Nikon D50 regards, Paul Watson South Africa PMW Photography Gary Wheeler wrote: It's people like you that keep me heading for my big debut on CNN...

You will definitely need BOTH. No getting around it. If money is a problem, get the camcorder first. It's highest prio for little ones learning to roll over, sit up, stand, walk, talk, pee on you. DON'T MISS ANY OF IT! You will SERIOUSLY regret it if you do. Later on (around age 7), you can graduate to still camera mostly. (Too much video is not a good thing. Learn to edit as you shoot.) Don't forget to back up everything! And don't forget to record their voice as they grow, too. When my often obnoxious teenage girl is screaming at me, I boot up the pc and listen to those kids back in a more innocent time. MAKE SURE you record them reading the book "I'll love you forever". You'll have to have them read it. You won't be able to get thru it without crying your eyes out :) I've tried many times. It's physically impossible. Can't be done. You'll have to do the research yourself for a videocam. For digicam, I've just bought an Olympus C765. It's pretty good. 4 megapixel, goood color, hi speed for a digicam, and not tooo huge to haul. About $300-325. Always have a charged spare battery with you. Congrats - you're entering the REAL world now! No more whining about yourself allowed. You've got important work to do :) ...Steve
