Has anyone else tried upgrading to Windows XP-64 bit via the MS website? You follow the links and get to here: https://microsoft.productorder.com/clientx64/default.aspx[^] I submitted my order, and now there's no trace of it. I don't think it's a spoof site (linked from here as well http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/04/26/0055215&from=rss[^]), but it's pretty damn unprofessional to not reply to my email querying my order when I have to give up ccard details. Customer service eh? Might as well go for linux... Regards, Barry

The link doesn't work for me in IE or FireFox. [Aside] Why does FireFox take me to paypal when a link doesn't work?

productorder.com whois registration: Registrant: ZOMAX INC. Unless I knew who that was, I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. Name and phone number is in the whois directory, so I doubt it is a spoof. But it might be an individual taking pre-orders of a product before it is released. Give 'em a call, domain registrations offer you a little more power in digging up names, addresses and phone numbers. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. looks strange to me, if MS owned it, it would ususally be a sub-domain of microsoft.com ex: productorder.microsoft.com or update.microsoft.com or dowloads.microsoft.com the web page doesn't even have the standard MS links to its menuing system

Microsoft do frequently outsource sites like that to other companies which aren't on their normal domain names. That site does look odd though - something just doesn't seem right. It is linked to from microsoft.com though so it must be ok: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/upgrade/default.mspx[^] (on the right)

I mean to add that link, that's why I'm not *too* concerned - I checked it myself in several browsers on several OSes to make sure I wasn't spoofed, and I did the whois (as mentioned in the other message zomax systems). But if I get nothing back by the weekend, I'm notifying my credit card company, and getting them to cancel the thing (assuming there is still any funds left to cancel...). Incidentally, one of my friends works for a company that MS outsource to which is similar to the one I linked to. Pretty shoddy imho. Regards, Barry

It is linked directly off of the MS site though (and I don't think I've been spoofed - I checked it on several browsers on several non-Windows OSes). Regards, Barry

Perhaps they monitor this site, and it prompted them ;) Apparently my order hasn't gone through. I don't think I'll reorder.... Regards, Barry

I only mentioned in that not knowing the company, I would have no knowledge of their business relationship and tech support. Having found a name, address, and phone number and registration from 1997 through 2012, I didn't expect it to be phony... just cant rule out shoddy. Barry Lapthorn wrote: Pretty shoddy imho. exactly. Suddenly I stopped getting email responses to my queries and got worried. (not tech related -- native american flutes) A friend reminded me through my panic that I could do the domain lookup and get more than email, a phone number. Although I didn't get more than voice mail, I got a drop-ship email notice within an hour. hehehehehe [edit: this after 6 weeks of waiting and email excuses for delays] _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau.
