Icon editor recommendations for developer

I've had a quick look at a bunch of them. This[^] looks good, as does this[^] and this[^] but I thought I'd ask here as well. Any recommendations or other comments and experiences?
Lets be honest, isn't it amazing how many truly stupid people you meet during the course of the day. Carry around a pad and pencil, you'll have twenty or thirty names by the end of the day - George Carlin Awasu 2.1.1 [^]: A free RSS reader with support for Code Project.

I have only tried the Axialis product, and I found it to be quite nice. It felt like the Photoshop of icon editors. By the way, if you are doing 32-bit icons with transparency, and you use VS.NET 2003, make sure you DON'T open them in the icon editor, even you are only going to look at them. The IDIOT IDE converts them to 24 bit icons behind your back, dropping all transparency information. It almost drove me insane before I figured out what happened. When I insert icons into VS.NET projects, I do it manually by hand editing the .rc and resource.h files. That's only safe way to keep the IDE from messing up my icons. -- An eye for an eye will only make the world blind.

Good points on VS, Jorgen. That about drove me nuts for a recent project where I had to modify and import several icons. Cheers, Tom Archer - Archer Consulting Group

I can complete the set of recommendations - I have Microangelo and it seems to be a pretty good editor. Better than my artistic skills, anyway!! Stuart Dootson 'Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p'

In the previous beta, the dialog and icon editors were not so difficult to use that I had to uninstall it and reinstall VS 2003 to do the work. Maybe someone else can tell us if the last beta addressed those editors. Cheers, Tom Archer - Archer Consulting Group

I seem to remember also not being able to set a transparent background in the previous beta. Cheers, Tom Archer - Archer Consulting Group
