Ahhh - don't trust it - it's a trick The film was produced by the the Ramtha School of Enlightenment[^] - a cult from the central US. The film is specifically designed to put the critical mind to sleep - and is filled with either lies or new age "you-have-the-power-to-control-your-world" nonsense spouted by crackpot-scientists in 30 second sound bites. I can go into more depth if you like. But the point is don't rent the movie. This organisation must not get your royalties. Joel Holdsworth Wanna give me a job this summer? :wtf: Are you serious or just messin' about? I enjoy learning when it comes to science but would rather skip it if it's all metaphysical stuff. Cheers, Tom Archer - Archer Consulting Group

I'm absolutely serious. They showed the film here at imperial college and one of their "scientists" came along to narate the film. Quite a few were brainwashed into believing it for a while - including some usually very sensible friends of mine. Check this out - the section at the end give a break down of the film: http://skepdic.com/channel.html[^] Joel Holdsworth Wanna give me a job this summer? I saw it. Didn't think much of it (I'm the sceptical type). I have friends who loved it. But, then, the movie fit with their metaphysical views (read: horoscopes, yoga, ...). The science isn't very good, either. After seeing it, I looked up the scientists on the internet. Most of them are heavily into New Age stuff. There was one exception: One of the few legitimate academics in the film, David Albert, a philosopher of physics at Columbia University, is outraged at the final product. He says that he spent four hours patiently explaining to the filmmakers why quantum mechanics has nothing to do with consciousness or spirituality, only to see his statements edited and cut to the point where it appears as though he and the spirit warrior are speaking with one voice. “I was taken,” Albert admits. “I was really gullible, but I learned my lesson.” Yet the real shame with this film is that it plays on people’s fascination with science while distorting and misrepresenting that science. Before its national release, the film packed theaters up and down the West Coast. Instead of stoking the curiosity of those moviegoers, What the #$*! numbed them with mindless quantum drivel. http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/article/0,20967,699379,00.html[^] Oh: one other thing not mentioned in the movie (but which I discovered thanks to google) is that the spiritual woman in the movie (Ramtha) claims to channel the spirit of a 25,000 year-old warrior from the "lost continent of Atlantis". She (the channeler) speaks with an accent, and you might wonder where she is from. The answer is that she's from Arizona, but "Ramtha" (the spirit) isn't a native-english speaker, hence her accent. I added some of these comments to the wikipedia article on the movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_the_bleep_do_we_know%3F[^] ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]

I just can't get interested in that movie. I guess it's because I read the Citizen Hughes book so many years ago that I'm more interested in Hughes' psyche during the latter period of his life as opposed to all his exploits before he started "losing it". After reading all of the replies to this movie I wonder if all the skeptics would have been the same people that believed the world was flat and couldn't possibly believe it was 'semi-spherical'? Just a thought... ;-) The pheromones section was interesting and based in science. I'm not quite sure I could associate the people that did this movie with the same crowd that believe in horoscopes. If you look at the movie very abstractly it could be boiled down to one point; You have the power to control your own destiny. For example, if you think you are going to fail that test, then you've already defeated yourself. At least that is how I interpreted the movie. It was quite strange how it had this meta-physical part, then it took a tangent into pheromones, then back again into meta-physical. I enjoyed it. Just because you watch Star-Wars doesn't mean you have to believe in the force. Watch it as a movie and enjoy. - Drew
