Given all the features they've been stripping out of the release, I'm not surprised that the word "My" was just too difficult to get implemented by the release date. Must be a problem with managed code support at the kernel level. ;P Marc My website

You mean, the JIT always converted it to "My Managed Documents" in the background, which made Microsofties kick it out alltogether?

Thats great, but would be even greater if they put "Your" instead. Weiye Chen Life is hard, yet we are made of flesh...

Same thing here, I always felt that the "My" means the computer owns it.

How about not defaulting all your documents etc. to your profile, typically stored on the most volatile disc on your system and all copied to the network everytime your start up and shut down? I never understood that....

Seriously? How many people 'work' at more than one PC? I've never known it - that's what networks are for, so you don't have to copy files from one machine to another all the time...

Microsoft to drop the "My" prefix for labels in next OS.

I have 13 different 'My' folders, all within My Documents (so I guess that makes 14 + the desktop ones)... Ryan Binns wrote: Me, for a start. Quite a few of my workmates too. Do you really do significant amounts of work, requiring access to the same files, on more then one machine? Isn't that an enormous pain in the arse? And do people other than yourself use you machines? (requiring other profiles). Ryan Binns wrote: And if the network server goes down, you're screwed. At least with Microsoft's solution you can still work. Yeah, but if your up to date profile is on the network, you're in the same position. And uncontrolled, 'My Documents' could easily get into the 100s of MBs (especially if you have music in there), waiting for this to download/upload all the time is not my cup of tea. If I want to transfer that much data, I'd use a DVD or memory stick if the network was down. Maybe it's just me - I never liked Microsoft's assumption that I'd want to put all my stuff where they say. And like I said, your system disc is the most volatile and the place you are most likely to lose improtant stuff. I don't keep anything on my C: drive that I care about. I know you can move your 'My Documents' folder, but if you are going to do that, you might as well just organise your stuff your own way anyway, which is what I do. I honestly didn't think any computer professionals used 'My Documents', but I'm prepared to admit to being wrong.:^) (even if you all know it's a bad idea really ;) )
