Has anybody here any example model of how to do a cost estimate for a database-driven web site (e.g., with sql server 2000 and .net)?

That's a very vague question. As an example. I'm working on a project just know that is going to cost the client in the region of tens of thousands of dollars. The project I was working on previously cost the client hundreds of thousands of dollars. The best answer I can give is that experience gives you the knowledge of how long things will take and what type of people it will take to do it. You will know how much it costs to hire these people so you have an hourly or daily rate which you multiply by the time it will take. Finally, you have an estimate of cost. But remember - That is all that it is, an estimate.

If it's via rentacoder, probably $15. If it's done with real developers, then it depends entirely on the features of the site, as Colin has said. Also, an estimate given at the start of a project is just that, a rough estimate. You really won't have a good idea how long a project will take until you begin construction - the specifications process obviously decides the application scope, and therefore the time/cost required. The best book to read on this sort of stuff is called 'Rapid Development', I totally recommend it. And if I was the one giving the quote, I'd be giving a range of prices and explain that the final price depends on the outcome of the specifications process, assuming it hasn't happened yet.
