I just bought a Microsft keyboard, traditional layout with a few extra buttons. This was so I could get a good quality keyboard, the Compaq ones at work are rubbish. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

I prefer feel and function of Logitech keyboards except that they no longer carry an ergo except in combo with mice, and I tend to upgrade mice and keyboards as improvements come rather than wait until a combo has both. I have to have the natural split keyboards because of extra wide shoulders. So I have a MS natural multimedia keyboard. which does me good. It isn't coffee proof as others have found out. but I don't know many that are. And mouse is a Logitech laser which I can't live without anymore. I loosly recommend the keyboard, highly recommend the mouse. You could go old school[^], hardcore[^], all green peace[^] or, like me, new age[^]. The MS one that I have is a lovely keyboard. Most keyboards sold today are crap, so expect to get a crap keyboard. You may not, but, likely you will. Sorry, that's just the way things are. That said, you can probably minimize the damage by watching for the three Signs of a Really Bad Keyboard:
- L-shaped Enter/Return key
- Suspiciously small spacebar
- Function keys not separated into three groups of four keys
All three of these are Crimes Against Humanity, devised by the demon QWERTY to reduce typing speed when switching keyboards.

I like traditional layout so I'm using Logitech UltraX at home. It's very stylish and surprisingly sturdy/heavy for something this small, so elegant looking and that's made in China. The only fault I can think of the force required to press buttons is too big, it gets better with time, but I still wish for a softer click. There is a keyboard similar to ultrax by BTC with much softer click, but it got stupid illumination built in and quite expensive at $60MSRP. PS all those wireless keyboards are a no go for me because of the lag. I always "overshoot", for example I try to erase something, I stop at exact moment I want my pc to stop, but it keeps going, sometimes swallowing an extra word. Most of the wireless keyboards also can't catch up with my typing so both of these issues make wireless experience mindblowingly frustrating for me.

I want one that is physically separated into two pieces, so I can attach each half to armrests of my chair and lean back and type in a nice relaxed position. Mounted on a Laz-y-Boy chair would be nice. Along with a large wall mounted flat screen panel so I can see the small type while reclining, like they use on the bridge of the Enterprise. I want one that is physically separated into two pieces, so I can attach each half to armrests of my chair and lean back and type in a nice relaxed position. Mounted on a Laz-y-Boy chair would be nice. Along with a large wall mounted flat screen panel so I can see the small type while reclining, like they use on the bridge of the Enterprise. There's two schools: "soft touch" and "clickety". Like most mass-typers I prefer the latter. Extra buttons are nice - but try if they fit your typing style. ex a.1: one collegue has a nice keyboard that remaps the function keys to "useful stiff", like "open document in MS Word" , "Print in MS Word" etc. With the added feature of remap being on after reboot. ex a.2 another co has a keyboard I quite like, but one of the the extra function keys (really nice) gets into my typing of "Shift".

It was almost a full cage with the user reclining in a leather chair, the keyboards falling under each hand and the big LCD hanging in front of them. Sadly I can't find the link. You know Josh, I was just thinking, I don't suppose we (by that, I mean you) could replace the standard textarea in the CPHog script with a Midas control, complete with all the nice control key stuff (Ctrl+I for italics, Ctrl+B for bold, Ctrl+U for underline...etc). ;)

It would be possible. And while i shudder to think of a wave of Big Pink Fonts hitting the forums, it would certainly be handy at times... Food for thought.

I prefer the 'natural' keyboards, but definately TRY before you buy. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is something to look out for. The 'Shift' keys on some keyboards 'stick' when the key is pressed on the inside edge if you do not press STRAIGHT down (and sometimes still does even then), and this causes you to miss capitalized letters, and then swear under your breath when you have to back up five spaces and fix it. Some of the MS keyboards still use this design, and I hate it. I found that one of the CompUSA el-cheapie boards doesn't suffer from it, and works well, but I can't find it listed on their site.
