Besides the buzzwords, "Linux for Human Beings", and that "let's hug the world" feeling, what does it offer that other distros don't? I see dead pixels Yes, even I am blogging now!

I like it because it has the best features of Debian (apt, etc.) with a much more up to date package set.

Personally I prefer Kubuntu because I like KDE better than Gnome but I use a custom Debian distro day to day - but the whole Ubuntu thing is awesome if you look at what the guy is all about and what it allows him to do for schools in South Africa etc etc.

The post was not voted down for mentioning Linux. To me it looks more like an ad than anything else. If he would have phrased his post as "I just installed this Linux distro and I like it because this and that and that... so, what experience have you have with it? another distro?" then the result would be very different. -- LuisR

Without a "here's what I like about it" it does look a lot like an advertisement. I still like my mepis CD. Interesting it is also Debian in core. Since I have latest generation hardware a lot of the people's linux stuff doesn't work, trying for the larger markets rather than the small and expensive. Mepis was the first and still only to recognize and use all of my hardware from graphics to printer, scanner, and PDA. But I still use Windows more often. Linux still misses a few things I need to do. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. Considering this site is dedicated to helping people out with Microsoft programming languages and environments, I can see why you think this site, and it's inhabitants, are MS centric. But "stupid"?!?! Nothing like insulting 2,000,000 people in one breathe. Drag your Linux-centric ass out the door if you don't like it here. If you hate MS that much, I bet you just went ape-s*** when they dropped that Windows machine in front of you at work. Hey, everyone has their preference for O/S's. I don't give a damn who thinks what is better. I happen to like Windows over Linux and you happen to be the opposite. SO WHAT?! If corporations want to drop Windows on 90% of their desktops, guess where I'm going to make my money! If they want to switch to Linux, who cares. I can support that too. Noone is going to remember you for your choice of O/S. Noone is going to carve "Linux 'til the end" on your grave stone. In the end, their just operating systems that we make money at supporting. The choice isn't a matter of intelligence, birth right, life or death. RageInTheMachine9532 "...a pungent, ghastly, stinky piece of cheese!" -- The Roaming Gnome

No. You were missing the point. Here they hate Linux in all shapes and sizes. Look at the original post. Voted down just for mentioning Linux. There are a lot of people on this website who are so stupid and MS centric that it's almost not worth bothering to come here. X|

This is a MS centric website and if you check you will find that many use Linux at other times as I am starting to. I would like the option to use Linux on the desktop but having tried that it became obvious that Windows was more suitable for my desktop purposes which is a shame because I would like to see more competition in the general desktop market.
