Seattle, here I come !!!

Cool :-) If only those Canadian Consulate people returned my Passport + Docs, I'd be able to come too. It's now almost 3 weeks since I asked them to mail it back to and they haven't responded. They've have had it with them for over 5 months too :-( Anyway I'm going to repeatedly mail them, fax them etc till I get my stuff back. I don't know if it's already too late though. One more reason why my life sucks right now.

Where is the Canadian Consulate? Can't you just go and pick them up? If it was me, I'd be on the phone everyday asking for them back and saying I'm coming to get them personally. Michael P Butler wrote: Where is the Canadian Consulate? Can't you just go and pick them up? If it was me, I'd be on the phone everyday asking for them back and saying I'm coming to get them personally. It's in Chandigarh - the other side of India. Going there would be pretty expensive - and while I don't mind the expenses as long as I get my stuff back, I don't want to go there and then have to come back empty handed. There is no guarantee that they'd give my stuff back if I go there - in fact I won't even be allowed inside the consulate without an appointment. The operators who attend the phone seem to be at the lower clerical level and don't really have any sort of authority at all. So all they do is tell me to try faxing again or emailing again. It's very frustrating - in fact it's probably the most frustrating situation I've ever faced in my entire life - barring my divorce of course which was in a totally different league as far as frustrating situations go.

That sucks. Have you tried talking to a lawyer who can tell you the best way to get your property back . There must be better procedures for getting legal documents back to their rightful owner. Entities like Consulates of foreign countries are not technically within Indian legal jurisdiction - so I am really unsure as to how successful this is going to be. But if I have no other option, I'll have to pursue legal measures. Overall this situaion is crazy!

An absolutely beautiful city with a great atmoshere and plenty to do and see. Only there for a couple of days last September but loved every minute of it. Here's the webcam from the Space Needle. The views are spectacular. http://www.spaceneedle.com/webcam/[^] Also have a look at this: http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/roadrunner/whatliesbeneath.htm[^]. Very touristy but fun.

Austin is just up the road if you are going to be around San Antonio.

It may annoy them and they might instantly reject the Visa - not that they may not do exactly that even now. But I think it's extremely irresponsible of them to keep someone's Passport+Docs with them infinitely. I missed out on a sponsored Singapore trip (Asia-Australia MVP summit in April) due to this. I have not been able to file taxes this year - technically I can be arrested I guess. But I can't file taxes as my bank records and previous tax filings are all at the consulate. My accountant has advised me to get those docs + Passport back as early as possible. I am also pretty certain to miss the Seattle summit - I don't think i'll be able to apply for a Visa extension in time. Nish :-(

They're probably waiting in turn for the U.S. DHS to send them back to them as well!

DHS = Department of Homeland Security, those alert and competent folks keeping our skies safe from fingernail files and Audi keys, but letting axe murderers across at the border.

I have a strong suspicion that Canada is sharing a *lot* more info with the U.S. than they really need to. There have been some strange cases of things happening between the two countries lately that are a little "shady"[^].
