i'm trying to write some custom controls that are outside of the windows-look control box. For example, i would like to write a combo box in which i can customize what the box actually looks like (the arrow button, the drop list colors and selection colors, et al). i'm not using MFC (and i don't want to in this case). Any advice as to where to go? Is WTL the answer? Thanks!

BUT I do recommend you look into the new "skinning" capabilities of Windows XP. *Apparently* the Windows XP skinning ability has a very easy to use API letting you do pretty much anything you want. Even simple theme downloads can change Windows XP dramatically, so some "real" programming can probably make your dialog box look like Britney Spears. MSDN (and the magazine) is a good place to look for this info. Sorry I couldnt be of much more help, I am after all just a lowly VB developer :-D regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa "The greatest thing you will ever learn is to love, and be loved in return" - Moulin Rouge Sonork ID: 100.9903 Stormfront
