Programmer Salary ?
-
Hi guys , I'm really interested in : What is an average salary of a really good programmer in European countries (like England,Germany,France,...). Regards
I can't speak for Germany or France, but in England there is no magical average salary. It depends entirely on a) Where in the country you are. There are expensive areas and there are cheaper areas and the respective salaries reflect this. b) What languages and technologies you are best with and which you are employed to use. If you want figures, I would say anywhere from £28k to £50k (US $50k to $90k) for the 'normal' developer positions, after that you tend to be getting into the specialist stuff. Around £35k/$60k seems to be common in the mid-South counties, with salries going down the further to the left you move and up the further to the right.

Just to add to David's answer, It all depends on languages being used, experience and skillset. 'a really good programmer' isn't the best description to use. I'd pay more for a developer with 3 years experience of the entire software development process who enjoys working along side customers than for a 5 year code-jockey who can write a fast qsort with his eyes closed, but who'd much rather be left to code. Programmers don't get paid a salary any more in Europe too many people were going on crap courses and learning html/Java/[ insert trendy pseudo technology of choice ] so European employers decided they'd only employ people who'd do it for lurve. pseudonym67 My Articles[^] "So keep that smile on your face.
