I just want them to add tabbed browsing, then FireFox loses its one only competitive edge for my custom. (And no that half-arsed MSN attempt doesn't count) ;-) Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

Dunno about blocking popups (I use separate software for that), but I can assure you that Firefox is rock solid. The only time I've had problems, is with the quicktime plugin. But that's more likely a problem with the plugin, rather than Firefox itself. Good music: In my rosary[^]

To be fair, it may not be the base-app's fault as most of the problems seem to be with opening media files and PDFs. Although, the fact the auto-update functionality fails to actually get the new-updates doesn't fill me with confidence. It is also a memory-hog and would appear to leak like a sieve if a lot of tabs and various media-formats are played within those tabs. I'll continue to use it until IE7 is released. Unless the new IE is a real dog of an app, FireFox will be consigned to the back of the HD. I applaud the efforts of the Firefox team. The app just isn't anything special. I've been using Avant for almost a year now, after trying Crazy Browser and MyIE2 (they've changed their name a while ago), and I must say I'm very happy with it. All of them are IE front ends though. After reading all the time how much more secure FireFox is compared to IE, I decided to give FireFox a try. From a UI point of view it was a big disappointment. Very limited configuration options, you cannot even hide it in the system tray. Provided IE is not too much of a security liability for you, give Avant a try. And about your concern, Avant is not ad supported. OGR

On the other hand, i tend to open up mostly web pages and very few media files (excluding HTML) and PDFs. Whereas, i tend to use a lot of very jscript-heavy / DHTML-heavy websites. IE has some real problems with memory leaks in DHTML apps that Firefox avoids. I think this points out a difference in users, as well as one of the major problems with designing a "one-size-fits-all" app like a web browser.

I've noticed the same problem as Michael dealing with media files and tabs. However, since I've had too many bad expirences with coding for IE, I'm a little biased towards anything else these days.

How about a pop-up blocker that works? Or maybe a "cancel" button that doesn't hang for 5 seconds. Or some stability. Or... RSS feeds. Wow. That's great guys. Concentrate on a solid, extensible product and leave the fun and gimmicks to the community who no doubt will do a better job. cheers, Chris Maunder
better job or fun? do you think community will have such courage to make own "extended" version of RSS? why avoid great chance for new virus attack base?
