You have got to kidding. With all the great choices out there, I am shocked that people would even consider Reagan or Clinton. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

Reassuring that Lincoln made it to number 2. I always admired the Reagan and Thatcher double-act, they made a lot of mistakes but I think they were what we needed at the time. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

Thatcher(also my favourite politican) made it to number 10 in UK, winner was W. Churchill. It is interesting that politicans, certainly not most popular people on the world are put so high in this competition. Btw., I like those politicans who promote free market, low taxes, no regulations, individual liberty and so on. I'm confident that people know better how effectively use their money than the politicans. I still can't believe that some people had 70% taxes in USA before Reagan. Another interesting thing is that those politicans(who promote free trade, low taxes etc.) are now called conservatives, but they were called liberals in the time of American revolution.

Did you notice the news that the US goverment is now getting more money after Bush's tax cuts? The same thing happened after Reagan cut taxes, people spend more of their own money, sales taxes increase, more people are hired for the demand, more money spent....you get the idea.

Lets just hope other countries (USA included) will take notice and give a hard look at the flat tax system. Michal Martinka wrote: I believe you(usa) also will introduce flat tax under 20%. I hope so. The flat tax has been pushed here but can never get off the ground. The Democrats will have none of it.

Ronald Reagan? :wtf: That is absolutely pathetic. It is only indicative of the fact that so few people know any history. Read David McCullough's John Adams and you'll understand what I mean. How could Reagan possibly compare to people like Adams, Jefferson, Franklin and Lincoln? Give me a break. And that's just political figures. What about Edison, the Wright brothers and on and on. Anyway, it seems like a pretty stupid thing to try and say who is/was the greatest person in any particular political or geographical area. What's the greatest animal? What's the greatest food? What's the best color? Matt Gerrans

They're not. It's a TV popularity contest. All it shows is that the majority of a bunch of TV viewers like a particular person more than the others. It doesn't mean that person actually IS the greatest American. If I asked a bunch of 1st graders who they thought was the greatest american they would probably say Sponge Bob. Although great, it doesn't mean Sponge Bob IS the greatest American ;) Cheers, Drew.

Well, we are getting real subjective now. Jonas Salk Wonderful what he did combating Polio. Maybe in a contest for greatest doctor, scientist? There were many more scientist that helped mankind. Philo Farnsworth The inventor of TV? Maybe greatest inventor. Dougles Ebert Inventor of the mouse? Maybe these guys were great inventors but bad Americans? I am not saying they are, I have no idea. I guess the real question is what makes a "Great American."

I just found that the show Greatest American is finished and the winner is Ronald Reagan. Personally, I like Ronald Reagan so I think it is a good choice. What do you think dear Americans? http://tv.channel.aol.com/greatestamerican[^]
