Line 6 POD vs. Yamaha DG Stomp
-
I realize this is as far from programming as you can get, but considering this is the Lounge, it seems fair game. :) Anyone done an A/B test between the Line 6 Pod 2.0 and the Yamaha DG Stomp? If so, which do you prefer? I've decided to sell my Pod after hearing the DG's samples at Musician's Friend. (I actually preferred the V 1.0 Pod over the version upgrade).
Thanks, /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com
I had always thought the Pod unit was of very high quality. I personally own a cheap Zoom 505, and it's done me well for general playing. I was thinking of getting the 505-2 version though, since the input socket is FiretrUCKED on my one. Do you do professional recording then? Simon ...managed to avoid his vb lecture today. I havn't done tested the pod versus stomp. I actually have a digitech legend which i want to replace with the pod. I just loved the sound and the delay between patches was non-existant compared to the legend. I use cake to do my recording with although an analog mic still can't be beat with anything else. Does the pod have a stereo headphones out jack? Line out?

I haven't used either. I've gone back to individual pedals. Over the years I had most of the boss multi-effects boards, but in the end could never get them sounding quite as good as separate pedals. You can also upgrade bits and pieces , keep favourites, etc.. Things keep improving though, I'll have to check out the Yamaha..

The POD's a nice unit. However, the V2.0 upgrade seems to have mucked with the V1.0 clean algorithm which I really loved. Line 6 swears they haven't touched the model, so maybe it's just me. They moved around patches a lot between 1.0 and 2.0, so it's harder to find. I prefer the sound of the Yamaha (which is also a new unit), although both units are extremely quiet. > Do you do professional recording then? No, but I have a home studio and use the Pod to go directly into Cakewalk. /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com

Yes, the delay between patches on the Pod is noticeably less in V2.0. The Pod has mono/stereo line outs, a punchy headphone output, and a digital output. >although an analog mic still can't be beat with anything else I think you'll be (very) pleasantly surprised with the Pod. You probably won't be miking your axe if you migrate to the Pod. /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com

Actually, the Pod and the Yamaha DG aren't multi-effects boxes - they're amp modellers. I suppose you could use them to manually dial up effects, but imho you're better off feeding the Pod/Yamaha into your favorite phaser/flanger/other pedal. They are good for emulating classic amps, which is harder to do with pedals. /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com

Hi Andrew, No, I've never used Sibelius. Cakewalk (and other recording software) offer notation capabilities form MIDI sources. /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com

Ahh , fair enough. Yes, you couldn't emulate other amps with pedals. Which amp do you use? I had a Fender, now a little soldano combo.
I'm afraid I'm amp disadvantaged :). I own a small (very small) Peavey practice amp that has been relegated to my coat closet. When I record, I go directly into Cakewalk. I use headphones to jam. /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com
