Yeah, you're the third one to tell me. The big question is, how many other hidden forums are there ? Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++

Christian Graus wrote: Yeah, you're the third one to tell me. Looks like somebody beat me to it. But the Java forum comes up occassionally in the Lounge. Given you're the top poster on CP, I'm surprised you didn't know it before today. Cheers, Vikram.

You just made a grave mistake by disclosing that. :| They are hidden for a reason, just like why the aliens are hidden in Area51. :~ Weiye Chen Life is hard, yet we are made of flesh...

My understand is that Sun sued Microsoft initially because Microsoft extended Java in with JVM. They made changes which meant that J++ would compile code that wouldn't run on other platforms. Something like that. Unlike Microsoft with C#, Sun do not allow Java to be subject to an external standards process ( although I'd say this is the main reason C# does it ), and they sued to control their language. Microsoft made changes to make Java more useful, Sun sued because they wanted the language to remain cross platform in every implimentation. Microsoft removed the JVM because they didn't like getting sued, I reckon. Microsoft supports Java, I run a JVM on this XP Pro machine. They just don't ship it as standard anymore. Good luck. A google of 'Java Forum' gives a lot of hits, surely somethign there is worthwhile ? Are the USENET forums still in much use ? I got heaps of newsgroup support when I started in c++, they were buzzing back then. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++

Personally i think there were other thinks as well that made SUN agry. At the time microsoft's JVM was a faster than SUN's and the compiler were a lot lot faster! How would it seem if every developer were using microsoft's emplementation and tools for java?

I'm new here, and I'm mainly focusing on Java at the moment. I'm having a hard time finding a Java thread here. Is there one, or can you suggest another site that I can participate in? Thanks.

:laugh: C++ has no reason to be hidden here, so, I suppose pure C++ forum does not exist.
