The proble is that sometimes there is no merit. In this case (Oil for food) there is a lot of merit. Jeffry J. Brickley wrote: there is always a good scape-goat. kgaddy wrote: You mean they are never guilty? Never? It's all just a conspiracy? wow No, you weren't paying attention. I have never met an honest politician. They are probably very guilty in the UN, they are probably just as guilty here of the same. We already found one US business that was profitting from the same in the order of millions. That dies because "we" don't want it to live. Heck, there were probably in the order of half of our countries in the alliance against Iraq all profitting from the same corrupt program. Everyone dipped their hands in. Politics is making sure that your people get off, and the other guy gets caught. If you opened an investigation on every politician in every country, we'd go into anarchy because they would almost all be guilty of something criminal. That is just politics today. I don't mind the guilty being locked away, just don't say we are any better, we aren't, no one is. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. What kind of war can Polland fight without help? Remember, she was conquered and raped by the Nazis much faster than France fell, and again by the Soviets. :~

I am not blaming that scandal on big business. I merely commented on the original "think of the people they represent" that maybe taking legal bribes from companies <>is in their interest, because it seems the only way to win an election in the US. "On big business is bad" - where did I write "business is corrupting us"? If you want to quote me, quote me correctly. Here you go: Large Companies undermine political power in all scales. Which wouldn't be bad as such, but with the "everything within the law goes as long as they don't make profits" crowd I would not want them to acquire the power to make the laws. lawful: I am not defending Benon Sevan. If he took bribes, kick him out and never let him take a public office again. (but don't kick out the U.N. for $150.000 bribes. That's what Haliburton seems to make in Iraq in less than an hour. legally. see above) I know that yu are a fierce opposer of bills reducing financial freedom. Would you, once such a thing goes into law, feel bound by it "because it's the law"?

Giles wrote: The more I read about this the more I think this is just the Republicans trying to get the knife in the UN. If so, thank God for them. Considering that the other side of our body politic would sell out entirely to the UN, its good to know we have some that are willing to stand up to them. The UN is the most anti-American political organization on the planet, it reflects the corruption and the cowardice of the nations that depend upon it to promote an international socialist agenda that they are now no longer able to promote in any other way. The US should disassociate itself completely and immediately from any affiliation with the UN, and rebuild the world according to its own internally defined Jeffersonian principles. I suppose my post was more in response to Giles' critique of 'corporate America' than to you per se. No, I do not believe that corporations should be above the law. But I do believe we should be more circumspect of those entities empowered to make the law. It is they who should be held accountable when the law fails. Passing the blame to some corporation and expecting even more draconian laws to solve the original problem will just raise the anti and solve no problems at all. The problem is clearly big government and not big business (or big religion or whatever). We should be far more sensitive to abuses of power by our political representatives than we are of such abuse by other, non-political, entities. If Haliburton is making unjustified proftis, than we should view that as a problem not with Haliburton, but with the various states (including the Bush administration) that are allowing it to occur. We should demand that any laws made to control such abuse apply towards state representatives (the UN or otherwise) and not towards increasing those same representative's power to control business. "Capitalism is the source of all true freedom."

They believe that you earn your money, you should keep it, not let the goverment waste it. peterchen wrote: about liberals Well, yes. And dogs complain about cats, and so on.... peterchen wrote: about prices. I'm not sure about this one. I guess everyone complains about prices if they think they are unfair. When I said I not sure where you were coming from I did not mean where your are coming from as in location. It a way of saying "I not sure what you are trying to say", or "I'm not sure of your point" I shoould have been a little more clear, sorry.

What kind of war can Polland fight without help? Remember, she was conquered and raped by the Nazis much faster than France fell, and again by the Soviets. :~
