Need to reinstall Windows on my wife's computer. Before I blow away the partition and start the install I want to backup anything useful on the C: drive. I am slowly getting over a humungous hang-over I aquired yesterday morning drinking with some Tongan's after work so am not thinking all that well. Therefore need to ask here in case I am forgetting something. My Dpcuments is sitting on a seperate drive so no worries there. Outlook.pst has been backed up and I have experted the Outlook profile settings from the registry. Anything else important I should get before reinstallation? Were I you and this machine is not on a domain I would download this tool by Lavalys and run a full system report. It will tell you drivers and devices installed and can generally be very helpful after the fact. http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en[^] If you have a bunch of Microsoft and other software installed download Belarc Advisor it will tell you a lot of information about your system and most importantly it will show you almost all of your product keys (it can come in very handy). http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html[^] Aside from that there's a whole pile of other things you should check but the list you have is all the biggies. The rest is really hard to detail and I don't have the time. I would say for 90% of instances the files and data you are already getting is all there is to worry about. The only thing I would say is that if she has MP3 music, FTP server saved connections that type of stuff. Back it up. Good Luck - Rex

probably a bit late now, but one thing i always forget to do is to put my network driver on a disk. it's integrated on my motherboard and i end up spending ages at the intel site trying to find the right driver, because it's about as clear as mud.

I usually just buy another HD or use one I previously had and keep the current one as a backup just in case I forgot something. It usually happens that after a week or so, I will find a need for files I forgot to copy... Also, if you get a set drive drawer, it makes it easy to swap back when you need to..
