I don't know how many of you remember my thread from a week or so ago, but I got a lot of positive feedback from the cp members and I would like to say thanks. I'm really excited about this and I also put a link to one of my cp articles (BugReporter) that my employer-to-be actually looked at and thought it was cool! CP has helped me out a lot. Thanks again! Very cool. I just kind of had a feeling that you would stand out to them. It seems that professionalism and work opportunities are really important to you and I can pick that up in text on the net. In person I bet your candor in the interview was outstanding. Your composure seems to be just *right* and when I heard you were the top guy at the time with a few interviews left I had a good feeling. Not that I'm some guru on this at all. I'm not in any way. Sometimes I spout off for to long and bore everyone. So the crux of my point is GREAT JOB! I hope it works out very well for you. My advice to anyone who is an employee goes like this. Keep a daily log of the high points of work. Always take notes of any minor/major conflicts and the players involved. Definitely write down the good things that happen to. Always carefully document the work you've done on any day. I recommend this for many reasons. The first is that it covers you tail in the event anything comes into question. You can actually demonstrate a journal of your activities and that carries a lot of weight. It also will remind you to stay focused and on task regarding your work. It's a nice thing to be able to refer back to at times just to see *when* you were working on *that* projects detail. What I like most about it is that it gives you levarage in performance evaluations as you have something tangible to show that will separate you from your peers. Managers are very impressed to see employees managing the details at all levels. Lastly, it will help you to maintain a good measure of your own experience. Review your work log every 90 days and make inserts that summarize the last 90 days. In those summaries note the net results. "...The last 90 days were very productive for me and the project. We completed our first major release and it went without a hitch. I was given a nice bonus for my work and overall I'm very happy about it. Looking forward we have some big challenges in the 2nd release which involves the implementation of some of the tougher features that were dropped from 1.0. This means I also have to work with _ _ _ _ _ and that's going to be a challenge. I've discussed these challenges with my supervisor and noted my concerns before going in. Now I'm going to focus on maintaining a professional attitude and getting the job done on time..." I just think this is a good practice and it will always serve you well. Congrats again! You overcame a small challenge to acheive a bigger goal and that is a sign of character. - Rex

thanks, code-frog. your first reply about being candid and the main points of what I should say were very helpful. I used my own words, of course, but a lot of what you said was in what I said. (does that make sense). I'm sincerely glad to be a member of cp because of people like you that tend to help me out when I'm in a bind, whether it's code-wise or something else. Makes perfect sense to me. Like I said I'm not an authority but when people ask real questions that will have a real impact on their life I try to give more than just a flippant off the cuff answer. Not saying others do that I just try to combine my own experiences into my response. I'm very glad that all of your combined effort paid off. CP is one very cool place. I hope I can always add value to the experience here. Which given the quality of the people here you have to try pretty hard. There's so many great people offering so many great ideas and comments. It's definitely a very valuable place to hang out for sure. - Rex
