Nokia mobile question
-
Today I picked up a new mobile phone as mine was on its way out. My old Nokia phone was set to store the numbers in the phone memory not the sim. Now I want to move all those numbers to my new phone. I thought I would do it with the infra red ports but I only have one sim card and I cant turn on both phones at the same time. Any idea how I can transfew all the numbers to the new phone?

Yes, borrow someone's SIM card. That's what I have done before. Or in the worst case, buy a prepaid SIM card. It shouldn't be that expensive (here in Mexico it costs about US $9). -- LuisR

You'll have a little of work, but you can try to reconfigure the old mobile phone to save all your data to the sim card and then migrate this data from the sim card to the new phone. Also you can try to connect the mobile phone to your computer and try to syncronize with your outlook, once this has been made, you can make the reverse step and pass the info. from your outlook to the new mobile phone. Hope this helps.

Find some software on Nokia's website called Nokia PC Suite - make sure you get the right one for your phone(s) (if its available at all) and computer o/s - you'll need either infra-red on the computer (I use a laptop), or a Nokia Data cable.. Install software, use it to copy the phone-book off one mobile/sim using either i/r or data cable, switch phones or sim's as applicable, then send it all back. Also see Joan's comment above - sometimes its easier to copy all from the phone to the sim, although some detail may be lost .. using Nokia PC Suite allows you to preserve a copy of the data on the PC as well for backup hth, 'G'

You should be able to copy all your numbers from the phone memory to the sim card. I.e. in my old Nokia phone, there was an option named "copy all numbers to sim/memory". Then you should have no trouble in migrating them to the new mobile phone. Second possibility is that you buy/lend a datacable and install nokia PC-Suite onto your pc. With that software it is very easy to migrate/backup/restore data on all nokia mobiles. Regards

Yeah the outlook route generally works quite well for me, but it looses the labels of some data. For example, if you had an entry which had multiple numbers (like home, personal mobile, business mobile, pager, etc) you'll find whilst each number does get copied they don't necessary carry the same headings which can be very frustrating. Also make sure you specify in the options that your phone holds the master list or it will syncronise to your non-existant outlook contact list and delete all the numbers in your phone! :) Nokia PC suite is a better route, newer versions can backup almost any nokia and migrate correctly. Also check your phone, my new nokia had a bluetooth app which dealt with upgrading perfectly. It copied itself over to my old nokia (via bluetooth) to facilitate the transfer. It even got round the need for two sim cards - very clever! -- The Obliterator
