Family tree's - how tall is yours?

My ancestry goes back to the highlands of Scotland. My aunt is in charge of this project, and she's gone back (I think) more than 20 generations. I know for certain that we've had at least one male family member from each generation serve in the US Navy since it's inception, and even a few in the Confederate Navy (grin). We have considerable family ties to General Andrew Jackson (CSA Army). Since about 1904, there has been at least one Harley-Davidson in the family too. Right now, there's two. I have family spread all over the country, with the heaviest concentrations in Texas, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, and both Carolinas. Patsy Cline was my dad's 2nd cousin. I think it translates to something like the "Tribe of the little axe" or something (correct me if I am wrong, but thats what I was told). I can't trace any of my ancestors back to Europe, but we can trace back several generations through the Old South, with most lines going back to the Southern colonies. Scots-Irish (Ulster Irish) mostly, with a little English and Cherokee mixed in for good measure. These were mainly frontier people so records are scarce. Family legend has it the the outlaw 'Curly Bill' Brocious, of Tombstone fame, was my great-grandfather, but I cannot confirm that, and I doubt that its true (although the guy apparently did get in trouble with the law and some point). My grandmother on my mother's side traced our family tree back to a MacDougal clan of Scotland's Highlands and from some English miscreants who came to the New England area in the early days of America. The other side of my family came from England, with a bit of Canuck(French-Canadian) as well. Josh Knox that-guy.net

If you walk into the Magdalena Landhaus in Oberaudorf (south of Munich, in Bayern) and ask for my great aunt Eva Maria von Paumgartten she'll show you this big funny-looking book that has the names of all the male heirs and their descendants in my family since 1255 or thereabouts. My family (on my father's side) can be traced back to the War of the Roses. This was in the late 1450's when Henry VI was ruling London. We are less fortunate finding the family tree history on my mother's side. Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation

My dad has traced our family roots back 7 generations. No relations to kings or queens were found. As luck would have it, the only one famous in our family tree is the first Bozo the Clown (Pinto Colvig). According to my wife, the composer Franz Xaver Gruber, who wrote "Silent Night" is in her family tree. So my wife has a famous composer and I have a famous clown. It explains a great many things. :-D

I can go back about 17 Generations to Swizterland. Other lines to less degrees. Of interest it looks like in my mothers line was a captian in a PA regiment that evicted my fathers side out fo PA (to MD) for not signing a oath to the colony. Also include is Gregory Clement who signed King Charles Death Warrent. I'd get a copy of it but have not found a way to get a Bank Draft from a English Bank to order it from the Parliments document office.

My wife has traced parts of my ancestry back 14 or 15 generations. She's got a huge tree that I've not tried to keep track of. One of the highlights that I do remember though is that one of my great grandfather's ancestors received his last name by losing his leg while rescuing his prince. As part of the reward, he became honest to goodness nobility (but not royalty). Of course, that doesn't provide me with anything but a nice story after many generations. John

Someone else in the family keeps all that stuff, but I have a picture of my great, great, great, great uncle Dan Lincoln - a spitting image of ol' Honest Abe. Must be a cousin, I guess. And I'm told I'm descended from Black Roger, a Scots executioner back in the 'way back. The discovery of that one caused my paternal grandmother to abandon her love of geneology:laugh:
