Rugby: All Blacks vs. South Africa
-
Oh bugger, nice one to the All Blacks. 31-27 at the House of Pain, Dunedin. 4 tries to 3 with that being the first tries for South Africa in Dunedin since 1956. I'd give the first half to New Zealand and the second-half to South Africa, but only just. Lots of mistakes on both sides, not the best game but still, a decent one. Come next weekend I will be carrying around a Wallaby and shouting for Australia who should be out for a do or die match. Gregan must win, or die on the field of battle, I reckon. My hat, shirt and socks off to Mealamu who was just amazing today. Coco-Pops Rokocoko for a stormer of a first-half and kudos to Habana and Januarie. -- modified at 6:09 Saturday 27th August, 2005

What a tense game. I'm not dissapointed with our loss today, I think we played good rugby. And lastly, can somebody please explain the rules of rugby to our 'little fight' french ref. Cheers Garf

Garth Watkins wrote: can somebody please explain the rules of rugby to our 'little fight' french ref North and South don't have the same interpretations of the Rules. 'We' are often angry against southern referees who tolerate violence in some aspect of the game (high tackles or late tackles for instance) and don't in others like during scrums. It is just about cultural differences :)

"I see you! I see you!" squealed the tiny French ref as the All Blacks knocked on close to the ground. The whole pub broke into laughter when the ref said that with a breaking, falseto voice. Classic ref moment. He wasn't great but I think he was equally strict to both teams. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. Does Argentina have any decent refs? Then we could have a southern style ref but without fears of bias as an Aussie ref would have had today. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

At least he was speaking in english...how many times did I watch a game involving two french teams and an anglophone referee unable to speak a word in French, and giving advices and orders in english :sigh: The referee, Joel Judge, is known here to be a good one. and his assistant was the english Chris White, right? Another excellent ref.

Garth Watkins wrote: they should have got a southern ref in, as the players would have known what he would have expected of them. True, and false at the same time. Players have to follow referee decisions, whatever they are. Also, they have to know how the referees of the Other Side decide, so they aren't that surprized during a World Cup, for instance. I wonder why the IRB doesn't standardize a little bit more the way referees have to rule. Garth Watkins wrote: Anyway, you have to blame the loss on someone Amen! :-D

I don't know about the refs, but Argentina has a pretty decent team. 'You' should integrate the Pumas in a 4-nations tournament, IMO they deserve it and it would help them to improve even more.

Unfortunately, the Pacific Islands would all complain as they want to get in on the competition. At the moment they are getting close to getting a composite team into the Super 12. But yeah some form of Sothern Hemisphere cup is needed. Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

Same Pacific teams that half the All Black team comes from? I like the idea of a Pacific Islander team but it will take a lot of convincing for a star islander not to accept an All Black jersey. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. Yeah, in all fairness the ref was fine. Definitely did not throw the game for either side. At least he did not send off a Saffa (well, Paulse was not playing so I guess that explains it) and picked up on the masters of pro-fouls (certainly not the Boks, we are just rough, not clever.) As for english, well, the game does need to standardise on one language and english is the natural choice. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. SA and NZ are probably the best two teams in the World today. I'm sad I missed that game...especially one with 7 tries!
