I'm moving into my busiest season where all I do is cut code all day and most of the night. My one repreive is music. However my musical memory and all that is pretty tapped out and I'm looking for new music or reminders of music I love but forgot about so I can go buy it online. So compose a reply for me that lists as many of your favorite bands/albums/etc as you like. Try to restrict the list to *ALL TIME* favorites. I don't want music you are sort of into I want to know what you'd consider to be the cream of your collection. I'm hoping I can discover some new cool music from this and also be reminded of other music I love. EXCEPTIONS: Country Music INCLUSIONS: Pretty much everything else from classical, digital, rap, Manaheim Steamroller, Heavey Metal, punk, hip-hop, if it isn't country then I'll probably listen to it. If it's country I'll throw it under my car tires on a wintery day as I back out of my drive way.;P {EVERYONE}Please don't make comments on what some people like as music. I want to encourage sharing not discourage it.{/EVERYONE} MUSIC I'VE ENJOYED: 4 Non Blonde Iron Maiden Grateful Dead Loreena McKennit Credence Clearwater Revival The Cardigans The Cranberries Smashmouth Creed Pearl Jam No Doubt Almost All Heavy Metal Led Zeppelin Dave Matthews Bare Nake Ladies I'm listing these to show you my preferences but I don't even know the good albums by some the artists I've mentioned.

Think of it as I'm trying to conserve space on the server and reduce bandwidth consumption. It will be a very cold day in H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICK before I listen to Country Music except for when my wife insists upon it for a song she knows I will like (there have been 2, my favorite: "There Goes My Life"). However, I have gotten such excellent responses in so many categories that if you wanted to hijack it at this point and expand it to allow for Country Music you may. Just remember the bandwidth and disk space that gets consumed is *very* much your responsibility. But... There goes my life is just a great song and I think the power of that song would be lost if Bruce and the boys of Iron Maiden did it. So I will make at least one exception and it's that song. ;) This thread is all yours now. ;P

But that’s only the very tip of a VERY large iceberg. That’s one of the great things about country music, plenty of good songs to get drunk with and even more sad sappy songs. If I where sitting at home with my music collection I could rattle off a number of songs of similar meaning. I will spare you my list of favorite artists. It’s rather long and many of them are either dead or no longer touring/producing music. ------------------------------- DEBUGGING : Removing the needles from the haystack.

Give me good old fashion twang music any day of the week, but the Beetles are just not my cup of tea. Point taken though, it all depends on ones perspective. The very song you reference is a very new song, from a relative new comer to country music(Kenny Chesney). There is hope, just not much hope for some genres of music. Currently in the process of ripping my entire CD collection to the hard drive and have come across some old dust-covered boxes that I haven't listened to in quite some time, so it's made the wole effort worthwhile. My list would have to include: Foo Fighters eels Pink Floyd Led Zep Motorhead Ramones John Otway (& Wild Willy Barrett) Steve Earl The Jeff Healey Band Mike Oldfield ZZ Top For those quieter moments: Juliet Turner Nick Drake Daniel Lanois Tracy Chapman When I'm working, I've taken to listening to Trance - I'm not a big fan of this type of music and wouldn't really listen to it at any other time, but it makes great background music that I don't have to concentrate on leaving me to focus on the coding.

Lots of people have named a lot of great bands, and I'll try to avoid duplications: King Crimson - The Court of the Crimson King or Lark's Tongues in Aspic Elton John - Tumbleweed Connecion Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders or The Low End Theory Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Impossible to go wrong with any of those. Also you might think about checking out some non-music stuff. I've got a few comedy concerts (Lewis Black, Dave Chapelle, etc) on my ipod and I'm always suprised at how the material remains funny as I listen to them over and over. I've also picked up a couple philosophy courses from The Teaching Company, and I recommend those too. Some of those lectures can really take your mind of work or the commute or whatever. And they are usually pretty good deals too: the last one I got was $130, but it was composed of something like 42 cds. I defenitly don't feel ripped off.
