UK Panic Buying Fuel
-
Nothing out of the ordinary here. In fact, given the prices, there were fewer people buying petrol this morning. Are you sure it isn't just the normal lunch time rush to get fuel so people can leave work early?

The problem with buying fuel on a Sunday night to avoid the Monday queues is that everybody does it. It's like everyone leaving work ten minutes early to avoid the queues - it just moves them forwards ten minutes. Catch-22. There is definately no panic-buying down here though. The news is reporting no panic[^] too.

Oh well I am in South Africa. I was just making a lame Zimbabwe vs. UK joke. Price of petrol here in South Africa at the coast is about R4.50 (38p) now. Pretty good compared to the UK but it is still expensive for us to fill up. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. Local radio stations are saying that people are now queueing to for fuel at garages over the Northwest, probably geeing up people to buy fuel, in preparation for Wednesdays fuel protests. Blogless
What's so special about the Northwest?

In South Africa the price is roughly around R6 (+-66 pound) per litre (not even sure anymore with the constant price hikes) but in Zimbabwe the price is Zim $ 22300 .... sounds a lot doesn't it? but in actual fact it is only about 80 or 90 cents in US $ oops did the conversion the wrong way round (just saw Pauls most and it made me realize) i meant (+-0.5 pound)

I asked what was special, not why it was so dirty.

While it is still cheaper our earning power is less so you can't convert so literally. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

Why is this referred to a "panic" buying anyway? Surely most people are just taking the sensible precaution to fill up if they are going to be unable to fill up for a while? I filled up my car yesterday, and will be filling up a can or two tonight, with a cool head and no palpitations.
