Ok, So I was at another sites forum. I am a "jack of all trades, master of none" We use a 3d modeling software called Pro/E which is really expensive, but worth it. So I'm popping around the forum, trying to soak up some new knowledge, and come across this mouse meant for 3D software guys. http://www.mcadcentral.com/store/shop/item.asp?itemid=3[^] I want one. Don't think the boss would pay for it though. :((

MX1000 has 12 buttons, and is cheaper - im sure with the program that allows you to customise buttons beyond what SetPoint allows you to do (forget the name) you could do the same for less - and still have a hand for the keyboard.

Yeah but the MX1000 does not have the "knob bit" (technical term, don't feel bad if you don't understand it) of the SpaceMouse. The SpaceMouse works in conjunction with your normal mouse, you use both hands, one on each device. Handy for modelling and audio editing I imagine. Wouldn't mind it for web-design either. Plus you can probably use it as the world's most expensive "volume knob" (another technical term, I am just full of it... them....) regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. I really don't need one, reason: I think the mouse is just another peripheral that takes up space... kind of like a palm pilot sitting next to your comp.. IOW the mouse is just another mouse with more buttons, which by the time you learn how to use, will be already finished with the project, to explain my palm pilot theory: the palm pilot is a small comp. which would you use, your 100mhz comp that can't do anything or the massive 3ghz comp which you can play the newest games on... why would you use the $469 mouse if you already have a keyboard with approximately 120 keys compared to 12 and a mouse simple enough that an amputee can practically use..... Could be a nice gaming device/keyboard replacement, like lean forward, to the sides :) xacc-ide 0.0.15 now with C#, MSIL, C, XML, ASP.NET, Nemerle, MyXaml and HLSL coloring - Screenshots

A mouse in each hand and looking at the screen at the same time? You'd have to be Rick Wakeman to use that arrangement properly :) I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

I think it completely depends on the software you use for a living. We model out product in 3D and then send it to local machine shops to produce the parts. The software is really intense, mechanical and thermnal simulation and more engineering capabilities than an MIT professor. The space mouse cost about $500-- All of the engineering software on my laptop cost the company ~$95,000 with all the little goodies. I'm not sure about the reply comments about video editing, I've never done that. But if you could see what we do, you'd probably say its justifiable. (Which scares the crap out of me when I think of a piece of plastic and a few electronics components costing ~$500)
