More Defective Products

The defective products threads reminded me of a recent experience I had with a product recall. More for the type of product recalled than anything else. When I'm not programming, I'm riding my motorcycle and when I'm not doing that, I'm skydiving. A skydiving rig consists of two parachutes (canopies); your main and your reserve. The main parachute very occaisonally doesn't operate as expected, requiring you to use the reserve. The reserve is special and isn't quite the same as the main. The reserve packed by a FAA certified rigger every four months, has a slightly different deployment mechanism that improves upon the chances of a successfull opening, and cannot be cutaway in the event of an emergency. Simply put, "When you need your reserve....you NEED your reserve". Which isn't too helpful if your reserve canopy has a manufacturoring defect (http://www.precisionaerodynamics.com/servicebulletins/SB1221.pdf) that could cause it to disentegrate upon opening. It's quite alarming when a safety recall uses the words 'cataclysmic' and 'catastrophic damage' in the same sentence and they're talking about the only parachute remaining out of the two you left the airplane with. Anyway, I had my rigger make the necessary fix. No big deal, just interesting.

At least the menufacturer knows that their customers will not complain when the discover the problem (black humor... sorry).  Mauricio Ritter - Brazil Sonorking now: 100.13560 Trank

True, but the vistim's heirs can gat quite noisy. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Actually, I've seen video of a dog that skydives. He absolutely loves it. He gets all excited on the lift to altitude; yipping, jumping around, and wagging his tail. Go Figure.
