half life 2

Tried it last weekend, and I still can't figure out why is everybody so disappointed?? HL2 rules! Anyone here tried it? Excellent game! My one gripe is that it is too linear, and there is only one main path to follow. It would be nice to see a game of that size where you could get to the locations of the set pieces a different way every time you play. It's not as linear as Doom 3 (terrible game: far too dark, and you just know that going around every corner will trigger a door to open behind you, so it stops being a surprise and gets tedious) but you still don't have many choices.

It was a disapointment in the same sense as you expected a Lamborghini Murcielago but you got a Porsche 911 Turbo. Still a blast but maybe not quite the blast you expected. I for one thought the game was great. One of the few games I have ever bothered clocking. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and WebTwoZero. Paul Watson wrote: I for one thought the game was great. It sure is :) I mean, nothing will ever blast you like the first one, but this one has helluva graphics, music (especially those bits from the first part:cool: ), atmosphere is just incredible.. One second you're crawling in the dark fighting some horror creatures (time for brown pants) and the next you're up against a pack of 'security officers' like bruce willis  All in all, a job well done by Valve:) --- http://sprdsoft.cmar-net.org - We Sprd You Softly Our site features contents and several images. yeah I have to agree... doom 3 did get a bit monotonous. HL2 had a lot more variety (i.e. vehicles) that made it great (+ a better story IMO). I'm curious what quake 4 has in store...

Is it true that HL story was written by some dude from Hollywood?? I've heard that the story was supposed to be a script for a movie or something..:omg: --- http://sprdsoft.cmar-net.org - We Sprd You Softly Our site features contents and several images. Agreed:| but I guess that's the way it's gotta be, even the first HL was like that, but it was *very* playable.. The repeated map loadings crossing the city in T3 were a bit tedious (apparently they had to be limited in size because it shared code with the Xbox version), but I always liked the feel of the environment.

Kinda hard to find a game like that though.. Like Anno 1602 / 1503..well, nearly.. :) --- http://sprdsoft.cmar-net.org - We Sprd You Softly Our site features contents and several images. My response exactly to both games. The only reason I stuck it out with Doom 3 is pure stubborness. I started playing Half Life 2 through at the hardest difficulty. It still wasn't very difficult, but the wow factor was still there. Unfortunately, not enough time had passed since my first run through so I stalled at about the 2/3 point. (During which time my youngest son has played through another 1 1/2 times.) Far Cry also had a great wow factor, but, like most games, it got tedious toward the end. I'm still not quite burned out on World of Warcraft; and am awaiting Call of Duty 2. Then it may be time to finish HL2 and play Far Cry through again (though I may wait until I can run the 64-bit version just for the novelty of it.) not sure about that one... but the stridents in HL2 look (an act) *extremely* similar to the machines in War of the Worlds!

I started/completed far cry a couple of months ago... definitely far more challenging & fun than your average FPS! (and, as you say, non-linear)
