Vista Home Basic Edition - No Aero?

I was just reading on http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista\_editions.asp that the Home Basic Edition of Vista will not support the Aero user interface. Has anyone else heard about this?
Remember, Aero is something nobody has seen yet. It debuts in beta 2. The current interface is all Avalon (Windows Presentation Foundation).

AERO is an acronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open - which is the "theme" that Microsoft have for their new product. Aero is a much cooler thing that was only partially showed off in the PDC demo builds (Vista build 4229). The video on C9, here, shows off some more of the Aero features. Aero is basically a new DirectX-based, 3D Windows Desktop Manager. It's got a new compositing engine, rendering pipeline, etc. The constant mantra of the Microsoft people has been "Wait 'till Beta 2". They keep claiming that the current shell and the current "Aero glass" theme is just a placeholder for the true Aero that's coming up Real Soon Now. So...more to come.

I assumed that the engine below WPF was the Direct-X based engine and that Aero would sit onto of that as a 'skin' (for the want of a better word.) I'd imagine it will use Uxtheme.dll/ComCtl6 (XP themes) or ComCtl5 (for the ugly so-called "classic" look. It's more a house of cards (vector graphics, albeit) on which applications are dogpiled on top of. If the DOJ ever gets a spine (not that we want them to, of course), they could have a field day with how the Microsoft applications leverage Vista in ways that no third party vendor would ever know how to do. So what happens to apps on Windows Vista 3rd World Edition that make use of AERO? Does someone upgrading from Windows Vista Home to Windows Home Pro find a very different interface to work with? And are the UX guidelines for AERO or for WPF? Surely a guideline driven thing should be made available across all Windows Vista versions? I'm patiently listening to this guy droning on and on, waiting for a screenshot, and then when i finally get to see it it's tilted left, up, and zoomed. I can appreciate how difficult it is to use a hand-held video camera, but sheesh - balance it on the dude's head or something. This is just nauseating...
