That won't happen for a long, long time simply because the government makes a lot of money out of it. I'll wager they make more than it costs the NHS to treat smoking-related diseases. I've given up and I've never felt better. Roll on a ban in pubs as it'll mean less tempation for yours truly. :)

Yeah, I know. Beth and I walked out of a restaurant a little while back because their "no smoking" area consisted of just one table... I'm rather more conscious of it at the moment as I've some sort of chest infection which is affecting my breathing a little if I exert myself. That's a weird argument. The cost of someone dying in their sleep at 80 in terms of health services is very different to someone who has constant health problems and eventually dies of lung cancer at 60. The argument assumes that all people consume the same level of health services, especially as they die. That is not the case. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++

Well, that's kind of true with every breath you take (apologies to Sting). Not that I think smoking is a good thing, but my main complaint with it is not that it kills people (that's their choice), but that their medical care usually ends up wasting my tax dollars. Not that the government would refund any of it if that cost went away. I can do without second hand smoke (got enough of that in my childhood), too. Matt Gerrans

Dick Solomon (played by John Lithgow in in Third Rock from the Sun) as he puffs away on not one but a handful of cigarettes. ;) Of course the truth is it just makes those final, crappy years occur 10 years earlier and makes them even more crappy. :( Steve T
