Not related to the other post... hey lauren, I installed Linux the other day and I must say it went INFINITELY better than when I did it a few years back. I must admit it IS getting easier for us geeks who enjoy more than just sitting at home on a weekend installing an OS to use Linux. I'll have to let you know if/when it gets hacked:) ------------------------------------- Do not do what has already been done.
Just out of curiosity, which distro did you install? Having been a Windows person my whole life, I just took the plunge myself into the Linux world about two months ago. I installed and uninstalled a bunch of them, from Fedora to Ubuntu to Zenwalk, before finally settling on Xandros because it was the most Windows-like and easiest to connect to my Windows network and printer (I guess it wasn't that big of a plunge after all). Therefore, I was just wondering how you picked your distro.

Read an article on moving from windows to Linux (possibly even posted by lauren come to think of it) and the guy used Mandriva. He stated in the article that Mandriva was easiest to install and he was right. I think it's pretty close to Windows. The major difference I find, and I don't know if this is across all distros, is the video and monitor driver setup. I get that messed up all the time and my screen turns fuzzy. Read an article on moving from windows to Linux (possibly even posted by lauren come to think of it) and the guy used Mandriva. I actually burnt a CD of Mepis and tried out the LiveCD version (I remember thinking it was really nice), but never got around to installing it. Probably due to bias, cause I think I've already decided on Xandros at the time. I still work on Windows most of the time too, but beginning to enjoy my Linux box as well while I'm learning PHP/MySQL on it.

I did install Ubuntu, but being a complete Linux noob, I had a heck of a time getting it to work with a printer connected to an XP machine. Finally gave up and went off in search of an alternative. :(( However, I have to agree that it is very easy to install. In fact, Ubuntu's disk partition tool has rescued me a few times during my test installations with various other distros.

Maybe there needs to be a pictogram version of it? Maybe too many words, or a complete sentence throw some people off? ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Probably due to bias, cause I think I've already decided on Xandros at the time. I didn't uninstall Mepis once it auto-detected and supported all my hardware. When it recognized my palm and ipod automatically I almost fell out of my chair.
