Freedom - liberal style :) In Arizona we have a saying, "Don't Californicate Arizona" - it's a must have bumper sticker... C. Gilley Will program for food... My son's PDA is an M249 SAW.

I'm looking forward to having beachfront property one day soon, and some of the small Pacific islands left behind may be attractive places to visit. True, I'll lose most of my family in the quake, but it will be worth it. "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

Sounds like you are having great time... I [wish to] think that there are still a few rebels left in the Bay Area that bravely try to resist the widespread imbecillities. Thanks!:-D Someday you should visit the US! I was born and raised here, but left when it became a dictatorship of the proletariate and their nanny-state puppet masters. Like a bad marriage that you've tried for years to save, you can't appreciate just how horrid it is until you leave it. It's a terrible feeling to be ashamed of one's home, and powerless to change it.:sigh: "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

Roger, It's not that bad at all, I love California, I have been leaving here for 6 years now. I move from England to California and got to say after leaving in England for about 8 years California is a wonderful place to be. I was born and raise in Spain, and I don't even want to consider to go back there. So maybe when you move out from where you have been born and find somewhere else better, you look back and find only the bad things from the previous place instead of the good things? Where do you like in the US? Cheers Al

Well, I'm here. How do these people live like this? Like rats in a cage, rabbits in a warren, sardines in a can. My god, where's a huge earthquake when you need one? There's nothing wrong with this state, really, that killing off 28 million useless liberal parasites wouldn't solve. It's too late now to make them all move back to wherever they came from; they're into a second generation now, and too many are entitled to call themselves "natives." But that's beside the point, and beyond my ability to cure. The hotel is great, if you don't mind being raped while simultaneously having your pockets picked. At $125/night, the rate isn't unusual for the PRC (compared to $35/night in AZ). But then there's a $14/day charge to park the car, $10/day to access the Internet, $12 for a glass of juice and a donut for breakfast, $7 for beer ($8 for a well drink), and you can't smoke anywhere except in the room or around the pool. It's bloody cold out there! The Rec room is a joke - a few weight machines, a half dozen mechanical substitutes for a brisk walk, and no room at all to practice tae kwon do. I'd gladly get out for a drive to see the sights and find someplace reasonable for entertainment, but on the way here my truck's clutch master cylinder failed. It won't disengage, so I can only operate it by matching speeds between the engine and transmission and hoping I can slide it into and out of gear without destroying the gears. Thank Bog for syncros! Stop and go traffic - the only kind they have here - is rough. Somehow I don't think I'm going to get to stop by Crestline on the way back to hell (again). Something like this has kept me from visiting my home every time I've managed to get within 100 miles of the place for 5 years.:( I'm so glad I have a bit of a buffer in the bank - four days here is going to cost me more than two weeks' pay. I have no idea how these fools can keep on living here... Don't get me wrong - everyone should visit Disneyland (I'm two blocks away at the Hyatt Regency) at least once in life, and if you're young enough, and very well employed, you should be able to do so by the time you're 60. But living here is unhealthy, expensive, and risky - the stress alone will kill you before you turn 40, just from the overcrowding. It's well known from lab research that rats will, when overcrowded by experimenters, become schizophrenic, cease eating and forming relationships, engage in mindless violent acts, then sink into suicidal depression. Every country needs a place for people to go that feel like they don't fit in with their local area. Do you really want them to decide Arizona is better? Best hope that Arnie doesn't get re-elected.

So when are you leaving? I have friends in high places - I'll help you get your green card...;) Or are you going for a H1b? Can't help you there... [EDIT] Sorry about that. I posted the above to reply to Jon. Twice. Both times it attached itself to your reply. The house is on the market, so as soon as it sells, we're going to buy something in Fort Collins. It's basically a financial decision. As you mentioned, CA is too damned expensive. To upgrade to a reasonably sized house, we'd have to plunk down > $600k. X| No way we can do that and save enough to retire on in 30 years. Something about low property values ( a home that costs about 150,000 in Dallas would go for 700 - 800K in most areas of the PRC). Also lower taxes ( no State income tax in Texas ) and land availablity. We don't want them, don't need them, and if I see a sushi bar replacing a BBQ joint I am gonna take up arms. I believe the band 'Tool' has a song called 'Learn to Swim' that addresses this. Personally, I think Blythe or Yuma would make a nice beach area. Not too far from Phoenix.

I think you'll like Ft. Collins, Jon. It's a college town, and there are technical jobs available. The climate is mild, though cold in winter, but not nearly as bad as many other parts of the country. The eastern side of CO is not its best side, but you're on the verge of some wonderful wilderness there, and the town is large enough to have all the conveniences you're used to. Let me know your address when you find a place - I plan to visit again one of these days. It's a beautiful town... "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

You've noticed that, too? THey used to be the most courteous, if somewhat speedy drivers in the US. Now they're all inconsiderate, rude maniacs. "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9
