A 3rd worlder's reality check
-
Everyone dreams. Everyone. Even someone as pitiable and scornful as a 3rd wordler. I dream too. Dreaming is easy. Then what is it that separates a few. That makes some people stand out. Well that’s something too. Its called realization of dreams. Will I realize my dreams? Will I ever achieve what I wanted to achieve ever since I was old enough to say my name? Or will I suffer the same fate as any other 3rd worlder? I know some Indians are successful in life. But these are the elite and rich upper class. They have the money power to get them out of India. What about me? I can imagine myself born in a developed place. I believe that if I was born in some computer aware place, say SF, I’d have conquered my dreams by now. I’d have got an exposure which is only fantasy now to me. I’d have been rich and successful and contended. Why has fortune been cruel to me? It’s particularly painful to me. Simply because I was not destined thus, to be a piece of crap in a world of nothingness. But there is hope, as is always so. I don’t remember who it was who said that, but to hope is to live. And so it shall be with me. I shall strive to cross the abominabilities thrust upon me by my 3rd world nationality and I shall conquer. And you shall all be witness to that. The 3rd worlder who dared to dream and conquer his dream. That will be me – Nish. CPUA # 0x0666 Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain www.busterboy.org

I confess that life is quite difficult at 3th world... I´ve to work for 3 companys, about 10 or 12 hour a day... but at least I get a partially good money (I´m not doing what I dreamet to do). Instead of wishing him good luck, I propose we (those of us in the USA) all lobby our bosses to hire him away from his lovely hometown. In return, he should promise us one new article each week for the rest of his life and not complaining anything about the 1st world. ;)

"One must help himself before he can help others" Perhaps they are why I hate religion...i've often thought Buddism or Shaoulin monk would be interesting. Looking at the online job listings, NC looks like a hot bed of development activity compared to Indiana. It is one of the places I have actually considered going to to find contract work. "There's a slew of slip 'twixt cup and lip"
...where are you finding these jobs? :) monster and friends are pretty empty right now. -c

I usually look a Computerjobs.com. I like it better than Monster. They have a few interesting jobs listed in your area. Of course, just because they are listed does not mean they are real jobs (Dmaned recruiters). Indiana simply has no jobs at all. (well, a few VB jobs, which I fortunantly don't have on my resume). The Chicago market looks reasonably healthy and Ohio is still alive. So, I might be hitting the road here in another month of two. "There's a slew of slip 'twixt cup and lip"

Can you imagine life without :- (1) a car for each grown up in the family (2) more than one computer in the house (3) DSL/Cable/T1/T3 (4) having visited a foreign country (5) a credit card with a decent credit limit (6) centralized air conditioning (7) air travel (8) DVD movies The list is only partial, quite partial as a matter of fact... Nish [BusterBoy] wrote: (6) centralized air conditioning I had this flash of an image of Nish laying on his death bed saying "My life was full and happy ... but I never had central air." My only recommendation is not to judge your life based on what you don't have. All of those things are still possibilities. It will take work, and patience, but those things are goals to be achieved. You cannot change where you were born. You've got four choices: fix your environment, move, learn to like your environment, or do nothing and grumble.
One problem with choice 2 is that many people born in wealthier parts of the world don't want poor energetic enterprising types like Nish moving in and competing with them. The U.S. is pretty strict about people moving in here, especially since Sept. 11. Somehow my government seems to have forgotten that at one time it gave the OK to Emma Lazarus's verse at the bottom of the Statue of Liberty. It's even worse in much of Europe. Those of us who live in the first world ought to remind our leaders that it's important to keep the doors open to enterprising foreigners!
