If we get it back this time, we're selling it and getting a Geo Metro. ;) Seriously, though, we probably will sell it. It's a 1991 Honda Accord, which, according to State Farm's Web site, is the #2 hot car in California. It has been a great car, but it's time for something else. Thanks for the feedback. Do you have a LoJack? Jon Sagara As you may presently yourself be fully made aware of, my grammar sucks. Sagara.org | Blog | My Articles

I had a friend that had one, when his VW was always being stolen right out of his drive way; they always recovered his car because of the LoJack. Unfortunately, the last time it was taken, the thieves trashed it ... while it was recovered; it was totaled. His reason for getting it was to just nail the vermin that kept stealing his car. -- modified at 12:42 Monday 17th October, 2005

Wire the car up to the mains when you park it.

My wife's car has been stolen twice within the past 6 months. The first time, we got it back. This time we may not be so lucky. In any event, I want to protect our remaining auto and our future ones, too. The only device I know of (besides a car alarm) is The Club, but I know that it is easily defeated. Can you recommend any other devices that are effective at preventing theft? Jon Sagara As you may presently yourself be fully made aware of, my grammar sucks. Sagara.org | Blog | My Articles

I'm sorry I forget what it's called .. but there is a device that locks your accelerator peddle .. it's like a "club" but for the foot peddles and not the steering wheel. It has inconveniences, but get a VW Jetta. The immobilizer is so effective I'm actualy hoping mine will get stolen. Once every week or two, the car stops recognizing the keys and won't start for anywhere between 5 minutes to a week. It's currently being repaired for the 3rd time (around 1500$ so far). Sorry for the rant, just learned this morning that VW won't help with the repairs and had to vent. Can't help with the anti-theft, but for the next car, don't get a VW.

An extra spark plug, threaded into the top of the gas tank and wired to the ignition coil (via a safety lockout switch), would seem to be in order. "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

That's why I am so glad I got the gap coverage/insurance on my 2003 Honda Civic loan. A coworker had a realtively new car stolen and it was trashed. The insurance company refused to cover the loan. So now she owes $2,000 on a car she doesn't even have anymore.

If it's a ready-made device you want that you can buy in a store then the thieves already know how to get past it. Steve T

I don’t know this for sure but doesn’t OnStar offer a vehicle recovery service? As memory serves they can not only locate the vehicle but remotely disable it as well. Might not be a bad alternative, as lojack is only available in certain parts of the country. Plus you get the other “features” of OnStar. Or you could drive an old rusty pickup truck like me. :)
