After many months of endlessly dumping money into my old truck - and it's not really very old - I finally broke down and did the American thing. Went $25,000 into debt for a vehicle. Yup, I bought a new truck, a Nissan Frontier, and have the old one for sale. Fortunately, my karate teacher thinks he wants to buy it next week. I looked into American made vehicles, but they offer absolutely nothing comparable for the price. Two things are hard to get used to, though; paying more for a truck than my house cost, and having a new vehicle for the first time in 20 years. Ah well, I suppose I can get used to it. If those morons in the PRC can get used to paying a half million for a home, I suppose I can adapt to this. But it will certainly be nice to be able to leave the house and know that I'll be getting where I'm going, and probably returning, too. It's been a long time since that's happened! Ouch.

Picture a huge catholic cathedral. In it there's many people, including a gregorian monk choir. You know, those who sing beautifully. Then they start singing, in latin, as they always do: "Ad hominem..." -Jörgen Sigvardsson

Not really, Roger probably doesn't care for China much either, but the fact that California "chooses" to act, rather than commanded to be, makes them so much worse. But I am stepping out of my bounds... I may be well off the mark, Roger should say anything more if it is to be said. After all, no one knows Roger Wright better than Roger Wright. And I still qualify as new here because I only lurked for a year plus. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I presume the PRC you talking about stands for People's Republic of China, if so then I'm one of those m* you talking about:mad:, who brought a house for almost half million and of course still in debt!

Oops! No, I don't refer to China. I refer to the sorry state I was born in, California, which I now refer to as the Peoples' Republic of California, and which I am ashamed to call my birthplace. It has become a police state, wherein every imaginable act is either against some law, or required by law and taxed and licensed. It is no place for free Americans to live. I apologize if my comment caused offense. That was not my intention, as anyone who has been here a while knows. "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

You're a quick learner, Jeff, and a most welcome friend.:-D No, I don't care much for China. I had an online friend here a few years ago. He started out spouting the Party line, but he was curious, and honest in his desire to learn how the rest of us lived. We at CodeProject responded to his questions about life on the outside, and he began to understand what life could be like without police with machine guns on every corner. Then he was silenced, and we haven't heard from him in two years. I miss him, and his innocent curiosity.:( He discovered a rare bird, by the way, in his home village. I registered his discovery because his country blocked him from accessing the proper site. I can't blame anyone for accepting a police state if all that is he/she has ever known. Such a person has no free will. But I can't accept the notion of formerly free people allowing others to dictate how they are allowed to live their lives. It's just wrong! Sadly, until one moves away to a place that is free, it's impossible for most to see the insidious creeping of new limitations of personal rights into one's world. One has to leave to see how incredibly evil the homeland has become. California is still a beautiful place, but it has about 20 million more Liberal idiots than it can realistically support. A very large earthquake would fix a lot of problems, and possibly make the state inhabitable by people, instead of sheep. "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

where are you living these days? I moved away from Cali too. Some of my friends who didn't make it out after the .com bust ended up having to go bankrupt because the cost of living was so high and they couldnt get another job. I would never move back there.
