It's sprinkled everywhere in the OT. I wish I could give you the verses, but I haven't memorized the numbers, and it was a couple of months ago I read it. Perhaps someone in the audience could find them? Basically, they all say that the only good gentiles are those who are either dead or serve the jews as slaves more or less. Heck, even marrying a non-gentile should be punished by death/exile (depending on which verse you read). -- Pictures[^] from my Japan trip.

Made in 1998, in reponse to Arafats threat to take up guns against the isrealis if theY "try to prevent us from praying in east Jerusalem". Not exactly a stellar time in the history of the mideast. Times do change, and Sharon seems to have mellowed. Iran has not... A more recent quote: "If we [are to] reach a situation of true peace, real peace, peace for generations, we will have to make painful concessions. Not in exchange for promises, but rather in exchange for peace." — Ariel Sharon, as Prime Minister, April 2003. Maybe he isn't as impolitic as the Iranian president, but I very much doubt that he has mellowed. He is still committed to the hypocritical stance that no one can have nuclear weapons in the middle east but Israel. http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/israel/nuke/[^] And he has made noises about violating Iranian airspace to bomb nuclear reactor sites. http://www.counterpunch.org/frank06032005.html[^] I am not in any way advocating nuclear exchange in the middle east - but that is not what this is about. Rhetoric aside - there is just no way that this would happen because MAD applies just as much in the middle east as anywhere else.

Legality is a questionable argument. Sure, it was carved out of Jordan. Was the Jordanian government paid for the land? Did that money go to the people? Or did it stay in the pockets of the rulers? But, the jews have bought about many improvements to the land they now inhabit. And, the arabs living there are better off for having the jews, funded by the US, develope the country. It comes down to age old hatred, wallow in it, and you WILL turn your world to shit. Put past greivances aside, and you can have a decent life. We did it, look at europe, protestant - catholic, the wars of religion. We fucked ourselves up over religion for centuries, and now it is all finished except for one small corner, northern ireland, and that is showing signs of finally improving. So put the hatred away, put religion on the back burner, let inteligence prosper. Nunc est bibendum

Wouldn't it be a treat if Israel 'tested' one of her nuclear weapons over Tehran. That would solve a few problems and save the Yanks from having to go in. Do not delude yourself that Iran cares about MAD. Lunatics like that do not think in a sane fashion: they will do whatever it takes to achieve their (fanatical) goals, regardless of the consequences which they may well delude themselves into believing are far more acceptable than not carrying out their threats. And if you believe, for a moment, that his remarks were isolated or entirely personal think about the context. The annual diatribe against zionism (for which read Israel). This happens on an annual basis and they trot out the same old rhetoric each and every time which amounts to a belief that Israel has no right to exist. Which brings me back to a strike before your enemy does policy. Works for me.

I've gotta say, chip buttie with ketchup is pretty damn good. My favourite in this line has to be smoked streaky bacon buttie with ketchup, but, heres the twist, made with toast! Hmmmmm, delicious. Of course, when it comes to batered fich, the ONLY batter of any worth is a beer batter. Get a nice strong brown beer, mix it in with the flour and let stand 20 mins. Coat the fish in flour before the batter, it makes it stick better. It tastes superb. And as for the type of fish? Plaice is one of my favourites, better than cod any day, but I have to say haddock is better (unsmoked of course). But, if you really want a fish and vinegar experience that will bl;ow you away, it has to be skate wing in brown butter, vinegar and caper sauce: Just poach the skate in vegetable stock, cook loads of butter till very brown in a pan, chuck in the capers and vinegar, and while still frothing, pour it over the skate. Absoloutely divine! Nunc est bibendum
